- Turn off your protein skimmer's Aquatrance 1000s pump to stop active water movement before removing upper components.
- If using the external drain line, disconnect the flexible waste tubing from the barbed port on the side of the old cup.
- Gently pull the old collection cup straight up out of the skimmer's main cylindrical body column.
- Remove your existing collection cup lid and set it aside; slide the black rubber neck alignment O-ring off the old cup neck if it is still in good condition.
- Slide your rubber neck O-ring onto the lower neck of the new ROP-CC-BH90 collection cup, and seat the cup back down into the skimmer body.
- Position the cup at your desired depth line, push your flexible waste line onto the built-in drain port, replace the lid, and restart your pump.
Pro Tips:
- Never Use Harsh Chemical Solvents or Alcohol to Clean Acrylic. When washing out your new collection cup, never use rubbing alcohol, glass cleaners, or harsh chemical sprays like Windex. Alcohol and chemical solvents will trigger a structural chemical reaction known as "crazing" in cast acrylic, which instantly creates thousands of tiny hairline micro-fractures through the plastic. This permanently clouds the view and destroys the structural integrity of the cup. Wash the unit using only warm tap water and a soft microfiber cloth or sponge.
- Keep Your External Waste Collector Vented. If you attach a flexible tubing line to the built-in drain port on this cup and run it into a secondary remote waste jug under your tank stand, make sure that collection jug is not sealed completely airtight. If the secondary container cannot vent air, backpressure will travel up the drain hose and pool inside the collection cup channel. This air pocket will disrupt the skimmer's internal vacuum dynamics, causing the neck to flood violently or preventing the foam from building properly.
- Lubricate the Neck O-Ring for Smooth Tuning. Because the Classic 90HOB depends on a smooth sliding friction fit to dial in your skimming performance, do not force or yank the assembly if it feels tight. Forcing the clear acrylic cup against a dry rubber ring can split the thin-walled collar on the main skimmer frame. Pull the cup out and rub a microscopic smear of 100% pure silicone grease or even a drop of water directly onto the black rubber O-ring. This lets the cup glide smoothly for effortless depth calibrations.
