IceCap Medium PRO 23-Hole Magnetic Coral Frag Rack (IC-FR23R)

The IceCap Medium PRO 23 Coral Frag Magnetic Rack (SKU: IC-FR23R) is an authentic, premium livestock propagation shelf distributed by CoralVue to provide marine aquarists with an elite, secure environment for fragment grow-out and light acclimation. Standard traditional egg-crate styles or generic clear plastic acrylic shelves often present frustrating design challenges: they slide down your glass pane under the heavy weight of growing corals, trap dense detritus pockets underneath, and allow active snails or wavemaker flow bursts to tip plugs over, landing expensive coral tissues upside down in the sand bed. The IceCap PRO Series eliminates these propagation headaches by integrating an active structural security system directly into the shelf plate.

The core breakthrough of the PRO 23 rack is its integrated Flexible Stem-Gripping Membrane. Rather than relying on simple, oversized drilled holes, every port features an elastic internal membrane liner. This layer flexes to accommodate various commercial plug stems up to 3/8-inch (∅3/8in) in diameter, pinching them securely in place so they remain upright even when brushed by large grazing fish or cleaner crews.固定 Crafted from robust, marine-safe solid black acrylic, the shelf naturally hides equipment shadows and prevents light transmission from feeding hair algae colonies underneath. Backed by heavy-duty, epoxy-coated external magnets, the rack locks onto display panels or sump glass up to 1/2-inch thick, offering a dependable platform for your high-value stony corals or zoanthid colonies.

Key Features

  • Locks Plugs Firmly in Position: Elastic inner lining stops Turbo snails, sea urchins, and high-velocity water movement from dislodging your frags.

  • Promotes Fluid Water Exchange: Clean, open-shelf engineering allows uniform aquarium flow lines to pass over, around, and beneath coral bases to prevent tissue stagnation.

  • Safe, Multi-Tiered Acclimation Tool: Allows you to position newly purchased coral frags near the bottom of your display glass and gradually raise the shelf over time to acclimate them to high-output LED fixtures.

  • (Note: This retail box includes (1) Medium PRO 23-hole black acrylic frag shelf plate, (1) wet-side internal magnet bar, and (1) dry-side external magnetic backing block. Coral frag plugs, discs, and coral glues are sold under separate product categories).

  1. Unbox all components. Crucial Pre-Check: Inspect the wet-side and dry-side magnetic pads closely to confirm that the outer protective rubber coatings are fully intact and completely free of deep gouges or cuts from transit.
  2. Wipe down the interior and exterior surfaces of your chosen aquarium glass panel to remove any existing algae film, grit, or sand particles that could cause scratches during installation.
  3. Submerge the black acrylic PRO 23 shelf plate into your aquarium, pressing the internal wet-side magnetic bar flush against the interior glass wall.
  4. Slide, Do Not Snap: Bring the dry-side external magnetic backing block to the exterior of the glass several incoming inches away from the internal rack. Slowly slide the external magnet across the glass surface until it snaps into vertical alignment with the internal plate. Warning: Snapping high-strength magnets directly together onto glass panels can shatter your aquarium wall or pinch fingers.
  5. Press your coral frag plug stems down firmly into the flexible membrane ports. Verify the grip by lightly tapping the plug; the membrane should instantly stabilize the stem.
  6. To acclimate fresh, sensitive corals, position the magnetic assembly low on your aquarium wall. Every 5 to 7 days, slide the assembly up a few inches to safely transition your livestock to higher light levels.

Pro Tips:

  • Always Keep the External Dry-Side Magnet Completely Dry and Salt-Free. While the interior wet-side section of the IC-FR23R is completely hermetically sealed for full, continuous salt water immersion, the external dry-side magnet block is strictly designed for outer room contact. If salt water tracks creep down the glass or splash onto the outer pad, wipe it down immediately with a soft, clean towel. Allowing salt water to sit behind the outer pad will trap minerals that can damage your glass finish when moved.
  • Check for Trapped Substrate Sand Grits If You Ever Readjust the Rack Height. If you decide to slide your mid-sized 23-hole rack down to a lower section of the tank, never slide it downward blindly. Tiny, sharp grains of sand or calcium carbonate substrate can easily get caught between the glass wall and the internal non-slip magnetic backing pad. If you drag the heavy magnet across those grains, they will act like a glass cutter, leaving deep scratches across your panel. Always pull the rack slightly back from the glass before moving it.
  • Give the Membrane Holes a Quick Clean with a Soft Brush During Large Harvests. Over months of continuous use, floating organic waste, detritus, or micro-sponges can settle inside the unused membrane ports. When you remove a batch of grown-out frags for sale or trading, take 60 seconds to run a soft bristled toothbrush gently over the open membrane slots under a quick splash of fresh water. This clears away organic debris and keeps the flexible lining supple for your next batch of frag plugs.
