Reef Octopus Automatic Neck Cleaner Replacement Blade - Version C
The Reef Octopus Version C Replacement Blade is the industrial-grade maintenance component required for the world’s largest automated skimmer cleaning systems. Specifically engineered for the massive surface area of 16-inch and 20-inch neck diameters, this Version C blade is the direct factory replacement for the Reef Octopus CL8000 and CL9000 series neck cleaners. In commercial environments where nutrient export must remain constant 24/7, a high-functioning squeegee is the difference between peak performance and a stalled filtration cycle.
Over time, the sheer volume of organic "mud" processed by industrial skimmers can cause standard blades to degrade or lose their structural integrity. If the blade is leaving behind a film on the acrylic neck, it increases surface tension and prevents millions of fine bubbles from efficiently entering the collection cup. The Version C blade is crafted from reinforced, saltwater-safe silicone, providing the immense durability needed to push through thick waste while remaining flexible enough to maintain a watertight seal against the internal neck wall.

- Disconnect the power to the industrial neck cleaner motor and remove the lid.
- Carefully pull the worn Version C blade off the reinforced motorized bracket arm.
- Clean the bracket and the interior of the massive skimmer neck with freshwater.
- Slide the new Version C replacement blade onto the bracket until it is fully seated and locked.
- Reinstall the lid and verify that the blade makes consistent, full contact with the internal neck wall.
- Perform a 30-second manual test cycle to confirm the motor turns smoothly under load.
Pro Tips
Check for blade "memory." Because Version C blades are so long, they can occasionally develop a slight curve if stored improperly. A quick soak in warm (not boiling) freshwater before installation will help the silicone relax and ensure a perfect 360-degree seal from the first rotation.
Inspect the acrylic for scratches. If a Version C blade is used beyond its service life, it may trap grit or salt crystals that can scratch the internal neck of your industrial skimmer. Replacing your blades annually is a small investment compared to the cost of a new SRO-9000 collection cup.
Torque matters. Ensure your industrial motor is running for at least 25–30 seconds. In a 20-inch neck, the blade needs more time to complete several full rotations to ensure all the "skimmer mud" has been pushed into the collection trough.
