Reef Octopus NK-160 Neck Extension
The Reef Octopus NK-160 Neck Extension is a targeted performance upgrade for 160-series protein skimmers, designed to increase filtration efficiency by extending the neck height by 2 inches. By providing additional vertical space, this extension increases the dwell time of air bubbles as they rise through the reaction chamber. This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Turn off the protein skimmer pump and remove the collection cup.
- Clean the contact surface of the skimmer neck and the extension O-ring to ensure a proper seal.
- Align the NK-160 extension with the skimmer neck and press down firmly to seat the O-ring.
- Place the collection cup on top of the newly installed extension.
- Restart the skimmer and monitor the internal water level; you may need to adjust your gate or wedge valve to calibrate the foam height.
Pro Tips:
Verify your vertical clearance.
Adding this extension increases the total height of your skimmer. Ensure you have at least 3 inches of clearance above the new total height to allow for easy removal of the collection cup during maintenance.
Lubricate O-rings for longevity. Apply a thin layer of aquarium-safe silicone lubricant to the O-ring before installation. This prevents the acrylic from sticking over time and makes removing the extension for deep cleaning much easier.
Observe the break-in period. Whenever new acrylic is added to a skimmer, it may briefly disrupt the surface tension of the water. Expect a short break-in period of 24–48 hours before the foam stabilizes and returns to normal production.
