63mm Metric Double Union Ball Valve
SKU: PVC-BV-63
- Fully Serviceable: Double union design allows the entire valve body to be removed for cleaning or seal service without cutting any pipe.
- Metric Standard: Precision-sized for 63mm metric PVC pipe (approx. 2.5" OD), the standard for commercial Reef Octopus filtration.
- Commercial Flow Bore: Full-port internal design ensures maximum water volume with minimal head pressure loss in high-diameter lines.
- Industrial Build: Heavy-duty grey UPVC construction with high-performance EPDM seals and PTFE seats.
- Precision Handling: Large ergonomic handle provides the necessary leverage for smooth, incremental flow adjustment.
- Ideal For: High-volume return manifolds; commercial drainage isolation; 63mm metric plumbing systems.
63mm Metric Double Union Ball Valve
The 63mm Metric Double Union Ball Valve is a robust, industrial-grade flow management solution designed for massive reef aquariums, public exhibits, and professional aquaculture facilities. Engineered specifically for 63mm Metric PVC pipe, this valve is a critical component for regulating extreme water volumes in professional Reef Octopus filtration assemblies and custom European-spec plumbing.
The True Union (Double Union) design is an essential feature for long-term system maintenance in high-volume setups. By unscrewing the threaded collars on either side, the central valve mechanism can be removed from the plumbing run. This allows for effortless cleaning of internal debris—such as snails or calcium scale—and easy lubrication of the seals without disturbing the surrounding pipework. Constructed from thick-walled, industrial-grade grey UPVC, it offers superior structural integrity and a clean "factory" aesthetic that complements professional filtration rooms.
Key Features
True Metric Calibration: Fits 63mm OD metric pipe—essential for maintaining factory Reef Octopus commercial-grade hardware.
Fail-Safe Sealing: Equipped with chemical-resistant EPDM O-rings and low-friction PTFE seats for a leak-proof seal and smooth handle rotation.
Hydraulic Efficiency: Optimized internal geometry maintains high velocity and minimizes turbulence in 2.5-inch diameter lines.
Saltwater Tough: 100% non-corrosive and chemically inert; will not leach harmful chemicals or heavy metals into the aquarium.
High-Strength Sockets: Deep slip-fit sockets provide a massive surface area for a secure, permanent solvent weld.
Ideal For
High-Volume Return Lines: Controlling the output of high-performance commercial pumps.
Equipment Isolation: Allowing for the quick shut-off of large UV sterilizers, chillers, or commercial media reactors.
Centralized Manifolds: Building professional-grade distribution blocks for large multi-tank systems.

What’s Included:
(1) 63mm Metric Double Union Ball Valve
Specifications:
Size: 63mm
Type: Double Union (True Union)
Connection: Slip x Slip (Socket)
Body Material: Industrial Grade Grey UPVC
Seal Material: EPDM / PTFE
Compatibility: 63mm Metric Pipe ONLY
- Unscrew the two union nuts from the valve and slide them onto your 63mm metric pipe ends.
- Ensure the pipe ends are cut square and deburred thoroughly to protect the gaskets.
- Solvent-weld the union sockets to the pipe ends using a heavy-duty PVC cement.
- Once the adhesive has fully cured, place the valve body between the sockets, ensuring the O-rings are clean and seated.
- Tighten the union nuts by hand until snug. Do not use a pipe wrench, as hand-tightening is sufficient for a leak-proof seal and prevents cracking the PVC nuts.
- Operate the handle several times to ensure smooth movement before introducing water pressure.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard 2.5-Inch. A 63mm metric valve will not fit standard 2-inch or 2.5-inch USA Schedule 40/80 pipe. 63mm is a specific metric outer diameter (approximately 2.48 inches). Always verify your pipe size with a caliper to ensure compatibility.
- Prevent Calcium Lock. In high-calcium marine environments, large ball valves can become difficult to turn if left stationary for months. We recommend a "monthly exercise"—simply opening and closing the valve once a month to keep the ball seats clear of deposits.
- The Silicone Trick. During assembly, apply a thin film of 100% silicone grease to the union O-rings. This ensures a watertight seal and makes it much easier to unscrew the nuts for maintenance after they have been in service for a long period.
