The True Union (Double Union) architecture is essential for long-term system maintenance. By simply unscrewing the threaded collars on either end, the entire valve body can be detached from the plumbing run. This enables the user to clear internal blockages (such as stray snails or calcium deposits) and service the internal gaskets without the need for tools or re-gluing. Constructed from industrial-grade grey UPVC, this valve provides superior structural strength and a high-end "factory" aesthetic that far surpasses standard white residential hardware.

Unscrew the two union nuts from the valve and slide them onto your 32mm metric pipe ends.
Ensure the pipe ends are cut square and deburred to prevent damaging the internal O-rings.
Solvent-weld the union sockets to the pipe ends using a high-quality PVC cement.
Once the adhesive has fully cured, seat the valve body between the sockets, checking that the EPDM O-rings are clean.
Tighten the union nuts by hand until snug. Do not use a pipe wrench, as hand-tightening provides a perfect seal and prevents cracking the PVC nuts.
Rotate the handle to ensure smooth movement before turning on the main system pump.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard. A 32mm metric valve will not fit 1-inch or 1.25-inch USA Standard pipe. 32mm is approximately 1.26 inches, whereas US 1.25" pipe has a 1.66-inch OD. Always verify your pipe size with a caliper to ensure you are purchasing the correct metric component.
- Prevent "Stuck" Valves. In high-calcium reef systems, ball valves can become difficult to turn over time. We recommend fully opening and closing the valve once a month to prevent "salt creep" and calcium from locking the ball in place.
- The Silicone Secret. During initial assembly or annual maintenance, apply a thin film of 100% silicone grease to the union O-rings. This ensures a watertight seal and makes it much easier to unscrew the nuts a year down the line.
