- Identify the flow direction arrow molded into the valve body; it must point toward the aquarium.
- Ensure the 25mm metric pipe is cut square and deburred to prevent damage to the internal seals.
- Dry-fit the valve to ensure it is in an accessible location for future maintenance.
- Apply PVC primer and solvent cement to both the pipe end and the valve socket.
- Insert the pipe firmly with a quarter-turn and hold for 20–30 seconds.
- Note: While spring-loaded valves work in any orientation, vertical installation (upward flow) is recommended for the most reliable long-term performance.
Pro Tips:
Metric vs. Standard.
A 25mm metric valve will not fit 3/4" or 1" USA Standard Schedule 40/80 pipe. 25mm is approximately 0.98 inches, whereas US 1" pipe is 1.315" OD. Always measure your pipe with a caliper to ensure you are using metric components.
Maintenance Warning. Never rely on a check valve as your only defense against a flood. Snails, calcium buildup, or debris can prevent a perfect seal over time. Periodically inspect the valve and ensure your sump has enough "reserve capacity" to handle a siphon event if the valve were to fail.
