- Ensure both 110mm metric pipe ends are cut perfectly square and thoroughly deburred.
- Disassemble the union. Slide the threaded collar over one pipe end before gluing the tailpiece.
- Clean the pipe ends and the internal sockets of both tailpieces with a dedicated PVC cleaner.
- Apply PVC primer and heavy-duty solvent cement to the pipe ends and tailpiece sockets.
- Push the tailpieces onto the pipes until they seat fully. Hold for 60 seconds.
- Once the glue has cured, ensure the EPDM O-ring is seated cleanly in its groove.
- Align the two tailpieces and thread the collar onto the opposite side, tightening by hand until firm.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard 4-Inch. A 110mm metric union will not fit standard US 4-inch pipe. 110mm is approximately 4.33 inches, while US 4-inch pipe has a 4.5-inch OD. Always confirm your pipe diameter with a caliper before installation.
- O-Ring Maintenance. For a perfect seal every time, apply a small amount of food-grade silicone grease to the O-ring. This prevents the rubber from drying out and ensures the collar can be easily unscrewed after years of service.
- Hand Tighten Only. Even at 110mm, unions are designed to be hand-tightened. Avoid using large pipe wrenches, as over-torquing can crack the collar or distort the O-ring, leading to persistent leaks.
