- Ensure both 40mm metric pipe ends are cut perfectly square and thoroughly deburred.
- Crucial Step: Disassemble the union. Slide the threaded collar over one pipe end before gluing the tailpiece.
- Clean the pipe ends and the internal sockets of both tailpieces with a dedicated PVC cleaner.
- Apply PVC primer and solvent cement to both the pipe ends and the tailpiece sockets.
- Push the tailpieces onto the pipes until they seat fully. Hold for 45 seconds.
- Once the glue has cured, ensure the O-ring is seated cleanly in its groove and is free of debris.
- Align the two tailpieces and thread the collar onto the opposite side, tightening by hand until firm.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard 1.5-Inch. A 40mm metric union will not fit standard US 1.5-inch pipe. 40mm is approximately 1.57 inches, while US 1.5" pipe has a 1.90-inch OD. Always confirm your pipe diameter with a caliper before beginning a permanent solvent weld.
