A Simple Way to Organize and Mount Probes

The IceCap 4-Port Magnetic Probe Holder (SKU: IC-MPH-4) is an authentic, studio-grade sump organization rack distributed by CoralVue to bring absolute structural security and a clean presentation to your under-cabinet aquarium command centers. Precision monitoring tools—such as pH electrodes, ORP sensors, temperature probes, and salinity meters—are essential for maintaining a stable marine or freshwater ecosystem. However, leaving these lines loose in your sump is a recipe for disaster. Heavy filter currents or shifting cords can easily bounce a probe out of the water, causing automated controllers to misread the dry air and dose dangerous amounts of kalkwasser, buffers, or top-off water. The IC-MPH-4 locks all four lines securely in place to eliminate this hazard.

Constructed from robust, heavy-wall cell-cast acrylic, the 4-port holder is built to withstand continuous submersion in harsh high-salinity marine sumps. Traditional probe racks rely on low-grade rubber suction cups that harden, become brittle, and detach within months. The IceCap series bypasses this flaw completely by using a specialized Dual-Sealed Magnetic Mount. Both the internal wet-side assembly and the dry-side backing block feature powerful magnets completely encased inside acrylic blocks to prevent rust. Hand-tightened nylon thumbscrews line every channel, letting you easily adjust each probe vertically to match your sump chamber's specific operating waterline.

Key Features

  • Protects Against False Controller Readings: Eliminates the risk of floats or water movement displacing sensitive electronic probes into dry zones or pump impellers.

  • Universal Equipment Alignment: Precision cutouts accept standard 21-inch diameter probes, making it a perfect fit for Neptune Systems Apex, HYDROS, GHL Profilux, and Milwaukee sensors.

  • Zero-Tool Magnetic Placement: Simply slide the rack along your glass baffle to easily reposition the array during seasonal filter cleaning or maintenance intervals.

Note: This retail box includes (1) 4-port wet-side acrylic probe rack with pre-installed nylon thumbscrews and (1) dry-side magnetic backing pad. Monitoring probes, controllers, and extension cords are sold under separate catalog categories.

Instructions:

  1. Unbox all parts. Check the clear acrylic surfaces of both the wet-side rack and dry-side magnetic plate to confirm they are clean and free of manufacturing dust or micro-grit.

  2. Wipe down the interior and exterior walls of your filtration sump's targeted baffle panel to remove any existing slime, algae, or sand that could cause glass scratches.

  3. Submerge the clear 4-port acrylic rack vertically into the sump, pressing its flat rear magnetic pad flush against the inside glass wall.

  4. Slide, Do Not Snap: Bring the external magnetic block to the dry side of the glass several inches away from the internal rack. Slowly slide the dry magnet across the glass until it aligns with the internal plate. Warning: High-strength magnets can crush fingers or shatter glass if snapped directly together onto a panel.

  5. Feed your monitoring probes down through the top of the milled port tracks. Slide them vertically until the lower sensing glass bulb sits completely submerged under your daily operational waterline.

  6. Hand-tighten the white nylon thumbscrews clockwise until they lightly clamp against the probe neck. Do not overtighten; you only need gentle friction to keep the probe from sliding down.

Pro Tips:

  • Never Place the Probe Holder in the Same Sump Chamber as Your Micro-Bubble Sources. Always mount your IC-MPH-4 inside a calm, stable water chamber (such as a dedicated return partition or a baffled equipment channel). Keep it well away from raw drain pipes, mechanical filter socks, or protein skimmer water discharges. High-velocity micro-bubbles passing beneath electronic salinity or pH probes can collect on the glass sensing bulbs, causing erratic values and false controller readings.
  • Avoid Direct Proximity to Sump Substrates and Coarse Sand Beds. If you slide the magnetic rack down into a lower section of the sump panel, be careful not to drag it through sand or crushed coral substrate. Fine silica grit can easily get trapped between the glass pane and the magnetic pads. Moving the magnet with grit trapped behind it will act like a glass cutter, leaving deep scratches across your panel. Always pull the rack slightly away from the glass before moving it horizontally.
  • Keep Your Temperature Sensor at Least an Inch Away from Your Electronic Probes. While the 4-channel profile organizes all your cords into one clean area, it is smart to leave an empty port between your temperature probe and high-sensitivity sensors (like a salinity or pH probe) if possible. Some metal-jacketed heating sensors can generate minor electrical interference or micro-stray voltage across their casings over time. Leaving a tiny space ensures your controller tracks baseline aquarium parameters with laboratory-grade purity.
