- Pharmaceutical-Grade Adsorption: Highly porous extruded micro-pellets pull dissolved organic compounds, odors, and toxins out of the water column with unmatched speed.
- Low-Dust Extruded Pellets: Remarkably hard pellet structure resists tumbling degradation, drastically reducing fine particles linked to HLLE in fish.
- 100% Phosphate-Free & Acid-Washed: Processed with high-grade hydrochloric acid to eliminate ash content, preventing unwanted algae blooms and pH spikes.
- Maximizes Aquarium Light PAR: By chemically removing yellowing tint layers from the water, it restores crystal-clear transparency to maximize lighting penetration to deep corals.
- Concentrated Visual Efficiencies: Ultra-dense internal surface area requires roughly half the standard dosage volume of low-tier granular activated carbons.
- Freshwater and Saltwater Optimized: Safe and highly recommended for sensitive marine reef environments, freshwater planted aquascapes, and invertebrate setups.

IceCap ROX 0.8 Premium Activated Carbon — Medium 1.5lbs (SKU: IC-ROX-MED)
IceCap ROX 0.8 Premium Activated Carbon (SKU: IC-ROX-MED) is an authentic, pharmaceutical-grade chemical filtration media distributed by CoralVue to deliver crystalline water clarity and elite chemical safety to pristine marine reef displays, specialized invertebrate habitats, and high-tech freshwater aquascapes. In any closed aquarium system, water naturally develops a distinct yellow or green hue over time caused by decaying organic particulates, fish wastes, metabolic phenols, and defensive chemical compounds (allelopathy) released by competing corals. Standard granular activated carbons (GAC) are frequently fragile, irregular, and loaded with fine ash dust that clogs filters and causes health issues. IceCap ROX 0.8 completely eliminates these limitations through an advanced extruded engineering profile.
The defining characteristic of the 1.5-pound "Medium" container configuration is its highly concentrated potency. The "0.8" designation denotes the exact micro-millimeter diameter of the extruded carbon cylinders, a specification optimized to maximize accessible exterior surface area while preventing water tracking or bypass channels within media chambers. Because it undergoes a comprehensive hydrochloric acid wash during treatment, it carries an ultra-low ash index and guarantees zero phosphate leaching. This prevents the nuisance hair algae spikes common with lower-tier carbons. By scrubbing the water grid of complex yellowing agents, it optimizes photo-synthetic active radiation (PAR) levels, allowing your primary lighting systems to penetrate straight to low-tier corals for optimal tissue growth.
Key Features
Bypasses Traditional Carbon Dust Rinsing: Superior structural hardness prevents the micro-pellets from grinding against one another, ensuring minimal fines during transit.
Counteracts Defensive Coral Toxins: Actively captures volatile compounds released by aggressive soft corals and anemones before they can stress delicate SPS corals.
Ideal for Fast Medication Removal: Rapid absorption kinetics pull residual copper treatments or antibiotics out of the water line quickly once therapy cycles finish.
(Note: Because this carbon is incredibly potent, it requires roughly half the physical media dosage by volume compared to standard bituminous or lignite carbons).

Instructions:
- Open your 1.5lb container of IceCap ROX 0.8 carbon. Prepare your preferred media container, such as a specialized fluidizing reactor or a fine-mesh media bag.
- The Quick Rinse Phase: Although ROX 0.8 is one of the cleanest carbons available, always place your required dose into a fine-mesh bag and perform a brief, gentle rinse with fresh RO/DI water to clear out microscopic shipping fines. Warning: Never aggressively rub or crush the media pellets during rinsing.
- Calculate Your Dosage: Use a precise dosage baseline of 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of total aquarium water volume. Note: If your system has never run high-grade carbon or has highly visible yellow water, start with a 50% half-dose to prevent sudden lighting shocks to your corals.
- Media Reactor Placement: Place the rinsed carbon inside your media reactor column firmly sandwiched between two dense foam padding layers. Adjust your internal water flow so the media is packed down tightly and does not fluidize or tumble. Constant tumbling will grind the hard pellets and create unwanted fines.
- Passive Sump Bag Placement: If running passively, place the carbon into a high-grade mesh bag rated below 500 microns. Position the bag directly into a high-velocity flow section of your sump baffle channels to force maximum water turn-through.
- Replace the media entirely every 2 to 4 weeks depending on your unique biological load, fish populations, and coloring indicators.
Pro Tips:
- Utilize the "White Paper" Test to Accurately Track Carbon Exhaustion. It can be hard to judge water clarity just by looking through the front glass panel of your aquarium. To test your carbon's effectiveness, hold a crisp piece of bright white printer paper against the side glass panel of your tank and look horizontally through the opposite side. If the paper appears yellow or green, your ROX 0.8 carbon has reached its absorption limit and needs to be replaced. If it looks perfectly crisp and white, your media is still actively filtering.
- Pack Your Media Reactor Tightly to Prevent Long-Term Grinding Fines. While traditional carbon types are sometimes allowed to gently boil or tumble inside a fluidizing reactor, you should always pack IceCap ROX 0.8 tightly. Because these pellets are exceptionally dense and hard, allowing them to constantly rattle and tumble against one another will slowly shear off their outer edges, creating ultra-fine black dust that can escape into your display tank. Keep your reactor sponges snug and lock the media down.
- Polish Your Water 24 Hours Before Tank Photography or Guest Events. If you are planning an aquarium photo shoot, recording high-definition coral close-ups, or hosting a gathering, swap in a fresh batch of IceCap IC-ROX-MED roughly 24 hours beforehand. The high-speed adsorption properties of this pharmaceutical carbon will scrub away hidden organic yellowing elements overnight, giving the water a pristine "floating in air" look that makes coral colors look incredibly vibrant on camera.
