Everyday Seaweed Flake Food for Marine Reef Herbivores
The Dymax Seaweed Blend Flakes (50g) is the standard everyday supply size in the Seaweed Blend range, suited for established reef tanks running seaweed-based nutrition as part of a regular daily or alternating feeding schedule. The seaweed-first formula positions three plant ingredients — seaweed, algae, and spirulina — before Fish Meal in the ingredient list, making it the most plant-forward marine fish food in the Dymax range. At 33% protein, the nutritional profile reflects its intended audience: herbivorous and omnivorous marine fish like tangs, rabbitfish, and blennies that need a plant-heavy diet as the foundation of their nutrition, supplemented by animal protein in the same or a companion food.
Vitamin C is explicitly highlighted in the Seaweed Blend formula — the only Dymax food in the range to call it out by name. For reef hobbyists keeping tangs and surgeonfish, this is meaningful: consistent dietary Vitamin C supports immune function and is often identified as a contributing factor in preventing HLLE, a chronic condition commonly seen in tangs kept on nutritionally limited diets. The floating flake matches how tangs and blennies naturally graze: at the surface and mid-column in moving water, rather than from the substrate. The flakes are easily crumbled if smaller particle sizes are needed for smaller species sharing the same reef.
Key Features:
- Seaweed-first marine flake food; seaweed, algae, and spirulina lead the ingredient list before any animal protein
- For herbivorous and omnivorous marine fish in reef and fish-only saltwater systems
- Explicitly highlighted for its Vitamin C content, supporting immune function in tang-heavy reef tanks
- Promotes natural coloration via β-carotenoid alongside the plant pigment stack
- Floating flake format mimics natural surface and mid-column grazing behavior
- Garlic extract for palatability and feeding stimulation in selective or newly introduced fish
- 33% protein appropriate for herbivore-focused nutrition within a multi-food marine feeding program
- β-Glucan immune support; Bacillus Subtilis probiotic for digestive health and waste reduction
- Easily digestible; minimal waste in reef systems
- No artificial colors, preservatives, or harmful additives
- 50g / 400ml standard supply for regular marine reef feeding schedules
Ideal For:
- Established reef tanks with tangs, rabbitfish, and blennies that receive Seaweed Blend as a regular part of a daily or alternating feeding rotation alongside a protein-based marine pellet
- Marine hobbyists who have confirmed their herbivores actively graze on the Seaweed Blend formula and are ready for a regular supply after trialing the 20g
- Reef shops stocking a mid-size herbivore marine flake that sits between the trial 20g and the large 150g on their retail display
Pro Tips:
- Run Seaweed Blend and a protein pellet on alternating sessions for the most balanced marine herbivore diet. Morning feeding with Seaweed Blend and an afternoon or evening feeding with the Marine Superior Pellet covers plant-side and protein-side nutrition within the same day without overloading either input. Tangs kept on this kind of rotation typically maintain better coloration and immune condition than those fed on a single food.
- Feed during the most active part of the photoperiod. Tangs and blennies graze most actively in the middle of the day when light levels are high. A mid-day Seaweed Blend feeding aligns with their natural grazing window and results in fewer uneaten flakes reaching the substrate.
- Do not substitute Seaweed Blend for a protein-based food entirely. The 33% protein level and plant-dominant formula are designed as a complement to a protein source, not a sole diet. Tangs need both plant and animal nutrition for long-term health; Seaweed Blend provides the former — pair it with Marine Superior Pellet or a similar formula for the latter.

Technical Analysis:
While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
Instructions:
- Feed two to three times daily in small amounts. Only offer what fish will consume within two to three minutes.
- Drop flakes directly onto the water surface. The flakes float initially and can be crumbled before adding to reduce flake size for smaller fish.
- Allow tangs and grazing species to feed actively at the surface before flow disperses remaining flakes.
- Remove any uneaten flake after three minutes using a fine net to prevent decomposition.
- Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry location between feedings.
