Reef Octopus O-Ring for Octo BR70 Biopellet Reactors

The Reef Octopus Replacement O-Ring is a critical component for maintaining the structural integrity and performance of your BR70 Biopellet or MF70 Media Reactor. Because these reactors operate under pressure to fluidize media, the main body seal must remain flexible and intact to prevent leaks. Over time, exposure to saltwater and repeated opening of the lid for media changes can cause the original O-ring to flatten, crack, or lose its sealing properties.

This genuine Reef Octopus part is manufactured to exact factory specifications, ensuring a perfect fit for the 70mm series reactor bodies. Replacing a worn O-ring not only prevents water from escaping but also stops the formation of salt creep, which can seize threads and damage the acrylic finish of your equipment. Keeping a spare O-ring on hand is a best practice for any advanced hobbyist to ensure filtration remains online during routine maintenance.

    Key Features

    • Factory-Direct Fit: Specifically engineered for the Reef Octopus BR70 and MF70 reactor models.
    • Chemical Resistant: Made from high-grade rubber designed to withstand the corrosive nature of marine environments.
    • Pressure Rated: Provides the necessary tension to maintain a watertight seal during high-flow fluidization.
    • Easy Installation: Seats quickly into the reactor's pre-machined groove for a hassle-free replacement.
    • Prevents Salt Creep: Eliminates micro-leaks that lead to salt accumulation around the reactor lid.

    Ideal For

    • Performing an annual overhaul of your Reef Octopus 70mm reactor.
    • Fixing active leaks or "weeping" around the reactor lid area.
    • Restoring the seal on a used reactor before putting it into service.
    • Hobbyists who have noticed their current O-ring is becoming brittle or stretched.
    • Maintaining a secondary "emergency kit" of essential reactor spare parts.

    What's Included:
    • (1) Replacement O-ring for 70mm Reactor Body

    Specifications:
    • Compatibility: Reef Octopus BR70 and MF70
    • Material: EPDM Rubber
    • Color: Black
    • Diameter: Fits 70mm (2.75 in) body

    1. Turn off the feed pump and allow the reactor to drain completely.
    2. Remove the reactor lid and carefully take out the old O-ring using a plastic tool (avoid metal to prevent scratching the acrylic).
    3. Wipe the O-ring groove on the reactor body and the underside of the lid with a damp cloth to remove any salt or grit.
    4. Place the new O-ring into the groove, ensuring it is not twisted or pinched.
    5. Re-secure the lid and tighten until hand-tight.
    6. Restart the pump and verify a complete seal.
    Pro Tips

Use a small amount of silicone-based O-ring lubricant. Applying a thin film of food-grade silicone grease helps the O-ring slide into place and prevents it from "binding" when you tighten the lid, which extends the life of the rubber.

Never use petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on your O-rings. Petroleum-based products will cause the rubber to swell and eventually degrade, leading to a failed seal and a messy cleanup.

Clean the seal every time you change your media. Even a single grain of sand or a tiny bit of salt in the O-ring groove can cause a leak. A 5-second wipe-down during every media swap is the best way to prevent equipment failure.
