Reef Octopus Essence S-130 Venturi Air Intake

The Reef Octopus Essence S-130 Venturi is the specialized air intake component responsible for the high-volume air injection required for efficient skimming. Designed specifically to mate with the Aquatrance 1800s skimmer pump, this venturi uses vacuum pressure to draw air into the water stream before it hits the pinwheel impeller. This process is what creates the dense, "milky" mixture of micro-bubbles that Reef Octopus skimmers are known for.

As the primary point of air entry, the venturi is prone to salt creep and calcium buildup, which can significantly restrict performance over time. If your skimmer is "starving" for air or the air-pull has dropped below factory specifications, a damaged or heavily calcified venturi is often the cause. This genuine replacement part ensures your Essence S-130 continues to pull its rated 420 LPH of air, maintaining optimal organic export and oxygenation for your reef.

    Key Features

    • OEM Replacement: Guaranteed to fit the Aquatrance 1800s pump used on the Essence S-130.
    • Optimized Air Mixing: Engineered internal geometry for maximum air draw and minimal turbulence.
    • Durable Construction: Made from high-grade, saltwater-resistant plastics.
    • Easy Maintenance: Removable design allows for deep cleaning of the air injection nozzle.
    • Plug-and-Play: Slides directly into the pump intake for an immediate performance restore.

    Ideal For

    • Performance Restoration: Fixing skimmers that have lost their bubble density or air pull.
    • Clogged Components: Replacing venturis where calcium deposits cannot be fully removed.
    • Accidental Damage: Replacing parts where the air hose barb has snapped or cracked.
    • System Spares: Essential backup part for high-bioload reef systems.

    What's Included:
    • (1) Replacement Venturi for Aquatrance 1800s

    Specifications:
    • Compatible Pump: Aquatrance 1800s
    • Compatible Skimmer: Reef Octopus Essence S-130
    • Material: High-quality PVC/Plastic
    • Part Type: Venturi Air Intake
    • Manufacturer: Reef Octopus

    1. Turn off the skimmer pump and remove the skimmer from the sump.
    2. Disconnect the air hose from the existing venturi barb.
    3. Gently pull the old venturi out of the pump’s intake volute.
    4. Inspect the intake area for any debris or salt creep and wipe clean.
    5. Press the new venturi firmly into the pump intake until it is fully seated.
    6. Reattach the air hose to the new barb and restart the skimmer.

    Pro Tips:
    Dissolve salt creep weekly.
Salt creep is the most common cause of venturi failure. Once a week, take the air hose off the silencer and let the pump "drink" about half a cup of warm RO/DI water; this will dissolve minor salt deposits before they harden.

Inspect the O-ring. Ensure the venturi creates a tight seal with the pump intake. If air or water is leaking from the connection point, the venturi will lose suction, and your air pull will drop significantly.

Avoid metal tools for cleaning. If you are cleaning the small air nozzle inside the venturi, use a soft toothpick or a nylon brush. Using metal needles or drill bits can scratch the plastic and permanently disrupt the air-to-water flow dynamics.
