Unlike standard solid lids, the IP-SCL-160S features a dedicated pre-machined port designed to mount vertical float switches or electronic level sensors. When connected to a controllable skimmer pump driver (such as the IceCap DCAIR pump controller or an aquarium automation system like HYDROS or Apex), the installed float switch detects rising liquid waste before it spills over the rim. The sensor triggers an immediate pump shut-off signal, halting foam production and keeping concentrated skimmate safely contained. Installation & Replacement Guidelines:
Turn off the skimmer pump and lift the collection cup assembly out of the sump.
Remove any old or broken lid pieces from the top rim of the collection cup.
If installing a float switch or level sensor, insert the threaded stem of the sensor through the bottom of the pre-drilled port on the IP-SCL-160S lid.
Secure the sensor using its marine-safe plastic retaining nut, ensuring the float mechanism travels up and down freely without binding.
Connect the sensor signal wire to your pump controller’s float switch input or system automation controller.
Set the new lid squarely onto the top rim of the K1-160 or K3-160 collection cup.
Return the collection cup to the skimmer body, restore pump power, and test the float trigger to confirm that the pump shuts off when the float is lifted manually.

- Rinse Float Mechanisms Monthly to Prevent Salt Bridging. Skimmate foam produces dense organic residue and airborne salt spray that can dry into a crust around moving float switch collars.
