IceCap DCAIR 700 Impeller
Maintaining thick, consistent foam heads in high-capacity reef skimmers relies on the precise mechanical shearing provided by the internal needlewheel. The IceCap DCAIR 700 Impeller (SKU: IP-DCAIR-700-IMP) is the official OEM replacement pinwheel assembly engineered specifically for the IceCap DCAIR 700 DC Skimmer Pump. Over years of continuous operation, magnetic drive cores can swell, individual pins can break during maintenance, or calcium encrustation can wear down rotor tolerances.
This factory replacement rotor drops directly into the DCAIR 700 motor block well. As the magnet spins on the ceramic shaft, the specialized pinwheel head vigorously chops the incoming air-water mixture pulled in by the venturi nozzle. This fine-bubble mixture maximizes surface area contact with dissolved organic compounds, restoring peak protein fractionating performance to your skimmer.
Ideal Replacement Scenario
If your skimmer pump exhibits severe rattling or grinding noises, fails to spin upon receiving power, or produces larger air bubbles instead of a dense white foam column, replacing the worn impeller assembly restores original factory performance.

Installation & Replacement Guidelines:
Turn off power to your skimmer controller and remove the DCAIR 700 pump from your sump.
Twist and detach the front volute cover to expose the pump cavity.
Carefully pull the old impeller assembly and ceramic shaft straight out of the motor block.
Clean any residual calcium or detritus from the inner motor well using a soft bottle brush and vinegar.
Guide the new IP-DCAIR-700-IMP assembly onto the ceramic shaft(not included), push it into the motor well until magnetic pull seats it, re-attach the volute cover, and re-install the pump.
Pro Tips:
- Soak in Citric Acid During Maintenance. Periodically remove the impeller assembly and soak it in a warm citric acid or white vinegar solution for 15 minutes. Removing calcium carbonate scale prevents weight imbalance, reduces friction on the shaft, and extends magnet lifespan.
- Inspect End Bushings. When replacing the impeller, verify that the rubber shaft bushings at both ends of the ceramic shaft are seated correctly. Running an impeller without intact rubber end bushings will cause shaft wobble and severe noise.
