IceCap Heater Controller Replacement Temperature Sensor

Temperature stability is one of the most critical parameters in maintaining delicate corals and marine fish. The IceCap Temp Sensor for Heater Controller (SKU: IC-TS) is the official OEM replacement thermal sensing probe engineered specifically for the IceCap Digital Heater Controller.

Aquarium temperature controllers rely entirely on their external probe to dictate when titanium or glass heating elements cycle on and off. Over time, submerged temperature probes are subjected to harsh marine environments—including calcium carbonate encrustation, accidental cable pinching during sump cleanouts, or electrical resistance drift from prolonged immersion. A malfunctioning probe can cause false temperature alarms, prevent heaters from engaging, or cause temperature swings. Installing an authentic IC-TS probe restores factory temperature calibration, responsiveness, and safe thermal regulation.

    Ideal Replacement Scenario

If your IceCap Heater Controller displays erratic temperature fluctuations, shows sensor disconnection error codes (such as "Er" or "HH/LL"), or if the original probe cable was severed, kinked, or cracked, replacing it with the authentic IC-TS sensor restores reliable, pinpoint temperature tracking.

    • (Note: Package includes (1) IceCap Replacement Temperature Sensor Probe).

    • SKU / Factory Part Identifier: IC-TS

    • Sensor Element: Encapsulated Waterproof NTC Thermistor

    • Connector Interface: 3.5mm Phono Plug (Mini-Jack)

    • Probe Sheath Material: Saltwater-Safe, Non-Corrosive Molded Polymer

    • Cable Length: Approximately 6.5 ft (2.0 meters)

    • Primary Compatibility: IceCap Digital Heater Controller, IceCap Dual Heater Controller

    Installation & Replacement Guidelines:

    1. Disconnect power to your IceCap Heater Controller and heating elements before servicing.

    2. Unplug the existing 3.5mm sensor jack from the bottom port of the controller unit.

    3. Unthread the old probe and suction bracket from your sump or display tank.

    4. Clean the mounting area in the sump to remove any biofilm or algae buildup.

    5. Place the new IC-TS sensor probe in a high-flow chamber, securing it with a mounting bracket or suction cup so the tip is submerged below the minimum water line.

    6. Route the cable with a drip loop and plug the 3.5mm jack firmly into the sensor input port on the controller.

    7. Power on the controller and verify that current ambient water temperature displays correctly on the digital readout.

    Pro Tips:

    • Position in Active Flow Away from Heaters. Always mount the temperature sensor in a chamber upstream of your heating elements or in an area of rapid water circulation (such as near the skimmer or baffle passage). Never place the sensor in the same quiescent baffle compartment as the heater itself, which can cause premature cycling and localized false readings.
    • Dissolve Calcium Scale with Vinegar or Citric Acid. Mineral and coralline deposits act as thermal insulators over time, slowing down the probe's reaction time to ambient water temperature drops. Soak the probe tip in a mild citric acid bath every 3 to 6 months to remove scale and maintain immediate thermal responsiveness.
