IceCap Catalytic Carbon Single Canister Kit
The IceCap Catalytic Carbon Single Canister Kit (SKU: IC-RO-CCAN) is an authentic, system-expanding water purification module distributed by CoralVue to insulate sensitive aquatic systems from city tap water oxidants. Many municipal water networks have converted from using standard chlorine to far more stable monochloramines (NH2Cl) because they persist inside long city water loops. Unfortunately, this chemical stability makes chloramines a severe threat to aquarists. Standard carbon block filters lack the contact time and electron surface speed to shatter the ammonia-chlorine bond. As a result, raw chloramines bypass standard pre-filters entirely, melting thin-film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis membranes and instantly exhausting expensive color-changing deionization (DI) resins. The IC-RO-CCAN completely eliminates this processing vulnerability.
This modular kit provides everything needed to upgrade a basic 3-stage or 4-stage system into a high-performance chloramine-busting powerhouse. The center of the kit features a rigid, clear 10-inch canister that mounts directly alongside your existing RO framework. Inside, a refillable transparent cartridge holds 1 pound of advanced catalytic carbon. This specialized media undergoes unique thermal modification to supercharge its active reaction sites, accelerating the destruction of toxic chloramines on contact. Complete with 1/4" quick-connect elbow fittings and an ergonomic structural wrench, this module delivers professional-grade municipal filtration protection in a space-saving design.
Key Features
Turnkey System Expansion: Completely removes the guesswork of hunting down individual fittings, brackets, or loose media bags to upgrade your system configuration.
Visual Media Monitoring: Clear structural housing lets you track exactly when the packed carbon matrix accumulates heavy surface mulm or sediment loading without disassembling the canister.
Standard 10-Inch Sizing: Refillable internal shell features standard dimensions, allowing effortless refills utilizing bulk IceCap loose catalytic carbon jars (SKU: IC-CC-SM) down the road.
(Note: This catalog package includes one single clear canister housing, a pre-packed refillable carbon cartridge, mounting hardware, and fittings. Main multi-stage RO purification systems and automatic flush valves are sold under separate product categories).

- Unbox your IC-RO-CCAN kit. Secure the steel mounting bracket to the black canister cap using the provided machine screws.
- Locate the existing water line on your current reverse osmosis system running out of your sediment filter stage and into your standard carbon block or RO membrane.
- Cut this 1/4" plastic line cleanly using a razor blade, and push the newly exposed ends into the 1/4" quick-connect elbow fittings screwed into the "In" and "Out" ports of the new IceCap canister cap. Positioning: The canister must be placed downstream from sediment filters but upstream from the RO membrane.
- Unscrew the clear canister bowl, remove the pre-filled internal cartridge, and pull off its outer protective shipping wrap if present. Place the cartridge back upright inside the clear bowl, making sure its rubber gasket faces upward to seal cleanly against the cap.
- Crucial Flushing Step: Disconnect the line leading out of this new catalytic carbon canister to prevent water from flowing into your RO membrane. Direct this rinse tube straight into a utility bucket or sink drain.
- Open your tap supply valve and flush the canister for 5 to 10 minutes until the discharging water changes from cloudy charcoal-grey to crystal clear. Reconnect the line to your RO membrane and begin your purified water production.
Pro Tips:
- Always Mount the Canister Downstream From a 5-Micron Sediment Filter. To maximize the chemical lifespan of your catalytic carbon, ensure this single canister is plumbed directly after a mechanical sediment pre-filter stage. If raw city water directly enters the catalytic carbon block first, heavy rust chips, sand grains, and pipe scale will rapidly cover the granular beds. This creates a physical block that seals off the active catalytic sites, rendering the expensive carbon useless long before it is chemically spent.
- Hand-Tighten the Clear Housing to Protect the Structural EPDM O-Ring. When installing or servicing your canister module, always verify that the black rubber EPDM O-ring sits perfectly flat inside the groove of the clear bowl rim. Screw the canister into the cap by hand until it snug-fits. Only use the included plastic hoop wrench to turn the canister an extra quarter-turn to lock down a watertight seal. Cranking the canister excessively tight using the wrench will pinch, warp, or slice the rubber ring, causing slow water leaks underneath your utility cabinet.
- Flush to a Bucket to Protect Downstream Membrane Components. Never skip the initial 5-to-10 minute media flush step when installing this canister or swapping out future carbon refills. Brand new catalytic carbon undergoes a lot of friction during cross-country freight transit, which naturally grinds a fraction of the granules into a fine black dust. If you do not route the first few gallons of water straight down a drain, this black dust will travel directly into your reverse osmosis membrane chamber. This permanently coats and clogs the microscopic pores of your TFC membrane, dropping your clean water production to a crawl.
