Reef Octopus Legacy CL110 & KS100 Replacement Drive Motor (SKU: ROP-KSCL-MTR49)
The Reef Octopus Legacy CL110 & KS100 Replacement Drive Motor (SKU: ROP-KSCL-MTR49) is an authentic, high-torque OEM internal component distributed by CoralVue to completely restore performance to vintage automated neck cleaners and kalkwasser stirrers. Mechanical drive motors that handle continuous skimmer neck scraping or heavy, thick white calcium hydroxide slurries run under severe physical strain. Over years of operation, internal gears can slowly strip out, salt creep can corrode internal contacts, or continuous binding can burn out the stator windings. Because Reef Octopus modernized their entire lid alignment tracking array in mid-2011, standard current-production motors will not fit vintage devices. This specialized pre-June 2011 assembly gives hobbyists a direct drop-in path to save their legacy gear from the scrap heap.
Operating on a low-wattage, specialized gear-reduction system, the ROP-KSCL-MTR49 delivers the exact slow-motion, whisper-quiet sweep required for reef filtration systems. It serves as the direct factory-correct replacement core for the legacy Automated Neck Cleaner 110 (CL110) and the Nilson Kalkwasser Reactor Stirrer 100 (KS100). By changing out a dead or grinding motor for this fresh OEM factory block, you immediately reset your equipment back to its original performance metrics—keeping your skimmer neck sparkling clean or your saturated limewater gently mixed without adding excess heat to your system.
Key Features
Saves Legacy Equipment from Replacement: Bypasses the expensive need to buy a brand-new kalk reactor or full neck cleaner lid simply because an old motor failed.
Suppresses Mechanical Gear Grinding: Replaces worn-down internal drive teeth with a fresh, factory-lubricated internal gear set to restore silent operation inside your stand cabinet.
Simplified Pre-Wired Installation: Eliminates tedious splicing by providing clean leads that map perfectly to the existing power entry points.
(Note: This retail SKU contains (1) individual pre-wired legacy replacement motor, installation tool, pin, and C-clip. Acrylic lids, full wiring harnesses, skimmer collection cups, and wiper blades are sold under separate product categories).

- Unplug your neck cleaner or kalkwasser stirrer motor from its electrical controller or wall timer. Disconnect the device from your aquarium system and move it to a clean workspace.
- Use a small screwdriver or the included tool to pop off the old metal retaining C-clip from the central drive spindle shaft under the lid face.
- Slide out the small cross-locking pin holding the acrylic wiper assembly or plastic stirrer blades onto the central motor shaft, and slide the assembly away.
- Unscrew the mounting fasteners holding the old sealed motor casing down onto the acrylic lid structure, and pull the spent motor block free from the harness lines.
- Place your fresh ROP-KSCL-MTR49 motor into the legacy tracking channel, splice the pre-wired leads cleanly back onto your existing power harness tail, and tighten down the casing screws.
- Slide your mixer blades or squeegee block back onto the fresh center rod, push the new locking pin through the alignment hole, snap the new C-clip tightly into its track groove, and retest the device.
Pro Tips:
- Never Run Your Kalkwasser Stirrer Motor 24/7 or You Will Burn It Out Fast. Because these low-RPM stirrer motors are packed with heavy gear-reduction sets to handle the thick, heavy drag of settled calcium hydroxide powder, they are not engineered for continuous, non-stop operation. Running a kalk stirrer continuously will cause the motor windings to rapidly overheat, cutting its lifespan down to just a few weeks. Always control your reactor motor using a dedicated aquarium controller or a digital outlet timer. For optimal saturation and maximum motor lifespan, program the stirrer to run for only 10 to 15 minutes every 2 hours.
- Never Exceed One Cup of Kalk Powder to Protect Internal Gear Teeth. When topping off your KS100 kalkwasser reactor with fresh lime powder, avoid the common temptation to dump in a massive amount to extend the time between refills. Adding more than 3/4 to 1 full cup of kalk powder at once will form an extremely thick, packed paste layer at the bottom of the reactor tube. When the motor turns on, trying to force the twin paddle blades through that heavy, cement-like mud creates extreme resistance that can instantly snap the internal nylon gear teeth or fry the motor coils. Keep your powder dosages light and frequent to ensure smooth mixing.
- Keep This Motor Completely Isolated from Active Ozone Lines. If you are running an automated neck cleaner on a high-performance protein skimmer, always verify that your system is completely isolated from active ozone (O3) injection paths. Ozone gas is an incredibly aggressive oxidizer that will rapidly degrade regular polymers, causing them to crack and crumble over time. Because this legacy ROP-KSCL-MTR49 casing is explicitly rated as NOT ozone safe, exposing the lid to wandering ozone lines will quickly ruin the protective polymer motor housing, allowing destructive salt creep to penetrate directly into the electrical windings.
