Calcium-Rich Floating Stick Food for Turtles and Terrapins

The Dymax Turtle Formula (110g) is a complete floating stick food specifically formulated for aquatic turtles and terrapins. Two nutrients are explicitly called out in the nutritional panel alongside protein: calcium at a minimum of 1.8%, and L-lysine at a minimum of 1.8%. Calcium is the structural mineral that drives shell development and bone density in chelonians — unlike fish, turtles with inadequate dietary calcium develop visibly in shell quality and growth rate, making the calcium claim directly meaningful to the keeper. L-lysine is an essential amino acid that supports healthy muscle development and immune function.

The stick format floats at the water surface, where turtles naturally surface to feed rather than diving for food. This reduces the amount of food that sinks and decomposes in the enclosure before being eaten, which is the primary source of water quality problems in turtle tanks. The formula is confirmed to not cloud the water when the sticks break down during feeding. Chlorella algae is included alongside spirulina and standard algae for additional plant-based nutrition. Fish meal, krill meal, and krill paste form the protein base at 36% protein, and garlic is included for palatability.

Key Features:

  • Floating stick format designed for the natural surface-feeding behavior of turtles and terrapins
  • Minimum 1.8% calcium for shell development and bone density support in chelonians
  • Minimum 1.8% L-lysine for healthy muscle development, called out separately in the nutritional panel
  • 36% protein from fish meal, krill meal, and krill paste
  • Chlorella algae included for plant-based nutrition alongside spirulina and algae
  • Garlic included for palatability and feeding stimulation
  • Will not cloud aquarium water when sticks break down during feeding
  • Formulated as a complete nutritional diet for all aquatic turtle and terrapin species
  • Contains a comprehensive vitamin and mineral stack including Vitamins A, D3, E, K3, and the full B-complex
  • 110g / 3.88oz standard retail container

Ideal For:

  • Single-turtle freshwater aquarium setups housing red-eared sliders, painted turtles, map turtles, or other common aquatic species who need a complete daily prepared diet
  • Pet stores stocking a dedicated turtle and terrapin food in their reptile or freshwater care section as a standard carry item
  • New turtle keepers who want to trial Turtle Formula before committing to the 350g supply, or who only need a modest supply for a young or single turtle

Pro Tips:

  • Feed only what your turtle can eat in 15 to 20 minutes, then remove the rest. Turtles are not efficient eaters — they often shred and push food around the enclosure rather than consuming it cleanly. Uneaten sticks break down in the water and drive ammonia spikes much faster in a turtle enclosure than in a fish tank. Removing excess promptly is the single most effective way to maintain water quality between water changes.
  • Consider feeding in a separate container to protect your main enclosure. Many turtle keepers fill a small separate container with enclosure water, drop the food in, and let the turtle feed there for 15 to 20 minutes before returning it to the main tank. This keeps almost all food debris out of the primary enclosure and significantly reduces the filtration load.
  • Supplement with calcium even when feeding a calcium-fortified food. For young turtles or species with high shell growth rates, dietary calcium from prepared food alone may not meet the full requirement. A cuttlebone or calcium block in the enclosure provides additional calcium on demand, even when Turtle Formula is the primary diet.

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.

Instructions:

  1. Drop the appropriate number of sticks into the enclosure or a separate feeding container. Sticks float at the surface for easy access by surface-feeding turtles.
  2. Allow your turtle to feed for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Remove any uneaten sticks after 20 minutes to prevent water quality degradation.
  4. Feed once to twice daily depending on the size and age of your turtle. Young turtles may require more frequent feeding than adults.
  5. Store the container tightly sealed in a cool, dry location between feedings.

Note: Turtles are messy feeders. Feeding in a separate container away from the main enclosure and returning the turtle after feeding is an effective strategy for maintaining water quality.
