Reef Octopus Classic 150-S Protein Skimmer Bubble Chamber
The Reef Octopus Classic 150-S Bubble Chamber is a vital internal component that manages the transition of the air-water mixture from the pump into the reaction chamber. This genuine replacement part is essential for maintaining the high-performance standards of the Classic 150-S internal protein skimmer. By utilizing a precision-engineered diffusion plate, this chamber breaks up turbulence and directs micro-bubbles upward in a smooth, laminar flow to maximize protein binding.
Maintaining an intact bubble chamber is necessary for consistent foam production and overall stability. If the original chamber is cracked or the diffusion holes have become permanently clogged with calcium carbonate, bubble density will decrease and turbulence will increase, often leading to inconsistent skimming or wet overflows. This replacement chamber is constructed from durable, saltwater-safe acrylic and is designed for a perfect fit over the Aquatrance 2000s pump output.
Key Features
• OEM Compatibility: Guaranteed fit for the Reef Octopus Classic 150-S model.
• Turbulence Reduction: Stabilizes the air-water mixture to create a more consistent and reliable foam head.
• Enhanced Diffusion: Specific hole pattern maximizes bubble dwell time within the reactor for better waste export.
• Durable Construction: Made from high-quality acrylic to resist cracking and the harsh environment of a reef sump.
• Tool-Free Installation: Designed to slide directly into place during standard skimmer maintenance.
Ideal For
• Damaged Components: Replacing bubble chambers that have been dropped or cracked during cleaning.
• Performance Restoration: Fixing skimmers experiencing excessive internal turbulence or poor bubble density.
• Preventative Maintenance: Keeping a spare on hand for high-bioload systems where filtration downtime must be avoided.
• Refurbishing: Returning a second-hand Classic 150-S to original factory specifications.

- Turn off the skimmer pump and remove the skimmer from the sump.
- Remove the collection cup and detach the main skimmer body from the base.
- Locate the bubble chamber seated over the Aquatrance 2000s pump output.
- Carefully lift the old chamber off the pump.
- Inspect the pump output O-ring for any wear before installing the new chamber.
- Slide the new Classic 150-S Bubble Chamber onto the pump output, ensuring it is seated fully and level.
- Reassemble the skimmer body and return the unit to the sump.
Pro Tips:
Keep it clean for maximum air.
Calcium carbonate can build up inside the small diffusion holes over time. Soak the chamber in a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water every few months to keep the holes clear and the flow unrestricted.
Check for level seating. If the bubble chamber is not seated perfectly level on the pump, bubbles will rise unevenly through the skimmer body. Always double-check that the chamber is pressed firmly and evenly into place during reassembly.
Inspect the O-ring seal. A secure seal between the pump and the bubble chamber is vital. If air escapes from the base of the chamber rather than through the diffusion holes, check the O-ring on the pump output for damage or debris.
