- Left-Hand Reverse Thread Casing: Formed with specialized reverse exterior body threads to ensure the locking nut remains firmly tightened when screwing internal adapters clockwise.
- 100% Aquarium and Reef Safe: Injection-molded from specialized high-purity unplasticized polymers that will not leach chemical plasticizers or toxic heavy metals into sensitive coral systems.
CoralVue 1/2 Inch Thread x Slip Black PVC Aquarium Bulkhead Fitting
The CoralVue 1/2 Inch Thread x Slip Black PVC Aquarium Bulkhead Fitting (SKU: RF-92005-TS) is a crucial mechanical fluid management transition component engineered specifically to establish watertight, leak-proof paths across glass overflow boxes, acrylic display walls, plastic sump basins, and water reservoirs. Safely routing water across a structural wall barrier is one of the highest stress vulnerabilities in any custom filtration network. Standard residential light-weight white plumbing adapters feature straight structural paths that are prone to dynamic twisting and seal failures when torque is applied. This specialized black aquatic bulkhead isolates those connection stresses, using an optimized low-profile design and custom-molded compression gasket to keep your floor completely dry.
Engineered to fit North American domestic drilling standards, this bulkhead features a highly versatile hybrid internal connection architecture. The wet side front flange features internal 1/2" Female Iron Pipe Threads (FIP / FPT), making it a perfect match for standard male threaded suction screens (such as CoralVue item code RF-92005-TS screen counterparts), intake strainer baskets, or directional lock-line nozzles without requiring toxic glue layers inside the display tank. The dry side exterior tailpiece features an unthreaded 1/2" smooth female slip hub socket, designed to receive 1/2" rigid Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe for permanent, high-velocity solvent welding down to your sump filters.
Key Features
Left-Hand Reverse Threads Stop Slippage: Engineered with specialized left-hand reverse exterior tracks on the bulkhead nut, ensuring that tightening a male adapter clockwise into the front threads actually pulls the outer locknut tighter against the glass rather than loosening it.
Allows Tool-Free Internal Swaps: Removable internal threaded connections let you easily swap out screen baskets for maintenance or reconfigure plumbing nozzles without sawing lines apart.
Sits Flush Inside Overflow Boxes: The compact, black injection-molded design minimizes physical space inside tight overflow weirs, blending seamlessly into dark aquarium backgrounds.

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
- Verify your drilled hole dimensions. Ensure the tank opening measures between 1-1/8" and 1-3/16" and that the glass or acrylic surface is completely free of sharp burrs or chips.
- Clean the area around the hole thoroughly on both sides of the tank wall using fresh water and a soft lint-free towel to remove all dust, glass dust, or plastic shavings.
- Slide the pliable black rubber compression gasket over the threaded bulkhead shaft, pushing it completely flush against the broad front flange shoulder.
- Insert the bulkhead shaft through the hole from the inside of the tank. The wide flange face and rubber gasket MUST sit on the wet water side of the reservoir. The hard nut always sits on the dry side.
- Thread the hard plastic locknut onto the shaft from the dry exterior side by spinning it counter-clockwise (due to the reverse threads safety feature) until it rests flat against the dry wall.
- Hand-tighten the locknut firmly, then use a specialized bulkhead wrench to turn it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Do not over-torque, as excess stress can fracture glass or pinch the rubber gasket out of its alignment track.
Pro Tips:
- Gasket Placement Rule: The Rubber Gasket Always Goes on the Flange Side.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM PLUMBING WARNING: No matter if you install this bulkhead vertically through a tank bottom or horizontally through a back overflow wall, the black rubber gasket must always rest directly between the wide molded body flange and the glass. Never place the rubber gasket on the side with the spinning locking hex nut. Spinning the hard plastic nut directly against a dry rubber gasket will twist, tear, or warp it out of its tracking groove, causing a permanent leak.
- Glue the Exterior Slip Lines BEFORE Clamping the Bulkhead to the Glass. When connecting your external lines to the rear 1/2" slip hub via solvent welding, always glue your pipe into the tailpiece while the bulkhead is away from the tank. If you apply liquid PVC primer and solvent cement while the bulkhead is clamped to your aquarium, the expanding chemical vapors can seep into the tight gaps around the glass. This will permanently cloud or distort acrylic panels and can cause structural micro-fracturing along raw glass hole edges.
- Do Not Wrap Internal Flange Threads with Heavy Layers of Teflon Tape. Because the 1/2" internal threads on the wet side flange are only under low gravity drainage pressure, you only need light hand-tight pressure to seal your internal intake guards. Avoid wrapping internal plastic threads with thick, bulky layers of heavy plumbing tape or applying thick plumbing paste dopes. Over-packing internal plastic threads creates a powerful wedge effect when screwed together, which can split the front bulkhead flange along its factory mold lines.
