Metric 160mm to 6in Imperial PVC Adapter
SKU: ROP-BM160
- Seamless Commercial Cross-Over: Eliminates mismatch limitations by adapting international 160mm hardware outlets over to local standard 6-inch US PVC pipe lines.
- Low-Profile Bushing Integration: Engineered as a compact, space-saving socket bush that nests directly inside metric fittings to minimize total large-bore pipe footprints.
- Heavy-Wall Rigid Configuration: Molded from premium, industrial-grade unplasticized PVC (uPVC) that effortlessly matches the burst tolerances of Schedule 80 systems.
- 100% Aquarium and Reef Safe: Formulated entirely from non-leaching, chemically inert polymers that will not drop toxins into sensitive marine environments.
- Standard Solvent-Weld Jointing: Integrates permanently using standard heavy-body PVC primers and solvent cement for a zero-leak, high-pressure structural bond.

Reef Octopus Metric 160mm to 6-Inch US Standard Imperial PVC Adapter
The Reef Octopus Metric 160mm to 6-Inch US Standard Imperial PVC Adapter (SKU: ROP-BM160) is an authentic structural integration component engineered by Reef Octopus to streamline high-volume plumbing adaptations, eliminate custom piping headaches, and protect structural flow dynamics in large-scale marine reef aquariums, public exhibits, and commercial aquaculture facilities. High-output European reef equipment—such as massive commercial protein skimmers, large multi-tank central filtration arrays, and high-velocity water loops—is built natively to meet metric plumbing specifications. In North America, locating local piping assets that mate with a metric 160 mm fitting is incredibly difficult. Forcing parts together with flexible rubber couplings can lead to sag over time, and heating PVC with a torch creates weak spots prone to catastrophic failure. This precision-molded solvent bush solves this problem cleanly, creating a seamless bridge to standard local 6-inch piping networks.
Manufactured to meet tight industrial engineering guidelines, the ROP-BM160 acts as a structural reducing sleeve. The outer diameter is specifically machined to slip natively inside a standard metric 160mm female socket fitting (such as a 160mm elbow, tee, or union block). The interior diameter is concurrently molded to accept a piece of standard US Imperial 6-inch Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe. By anchoring into your existing plumbing layout via standard solvent welding, it establishes a permanent, airtight connection that can withstand persistent high-pressure pump loops and system vibrations without fracturing or leaking.
Key Features
Maintains Maximum Flow Performance: Features a smooth internal transitional slope that eliminates dead zones, prevents detritus collection, and lowers head-pressure drag.
Resists Aggressive Chemical Corrosions: Heavy-wall construction stands up to continuous saltwater exposure, commercial ozone injection paths, and acidic cleaning flushes.
Saves Critical Cabinet Real Estate: Unlike bulky external step adapters, this space-saving insert bush sits tucked entirely inside the host fitting to fit tight spaces easily.
(Note: This retail SKU contains (1) standalone 160mm-to-6" step adapter bushing. Direct metric piping lines, imperial socket fittings, PVC solvent cements, and high-volume pump housings are sold under separate product categories).

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
- Dry-fit your components first. Verify that the outer surface of your ROP-BM160 adapter slides smoothly into your metric 160mm socket fitting, and your US 6-inch pipe slides into the inside track.
- Use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper or a pipe deburring tool to lightly rough up the gluing surfaces on the adapter, the inside of the metric fitting, and the outside of the US pipe.
- Wipe all prepared joint areas clean with a dry cloth to remove any lingering plastic dust, oil films, or moisture.
- Apply a liberal, even layer of heavy-body PVC primer to the outer 160mm barrel of the adapter and the inside sleeve of your metric receiver fitting.
- Apply a layer of high-strength heavy-body PVC solvent cement over the primed zones, push the adapter firmly into the metric fitting with a quick quarter-turn twist, and hold tightly for 30 seconds.
- Repeat the priming and cementing process on the inner 6-inch track of the adapter to anchor your US Imperial pipe section. Allow the completed joint to cure fully for 24 hours before filling with water.
Pro Tips:
- Remember: This Adapter Nests Inside a Metric FITTING, Not Directly onto Metric PIPE.
CRITICAL ARCHITECTURAL PLUMBING RULE: When mapping out your pipe runs, keep in mind that the metric 160mm side of this adapter is a spigot (male) connection profile. It is specifically engineered to slide straight inside a 160mm metric socket fitting (such as an elbow, a union, or a large gate valve rim). It cannot slide over a bare piece of 160mm metric pipe. If you need to connect this adapter to a piece of raw metric pipe, you must first place a standard 160mm Straight Coupling onto the pipe line.
- Always Use Heavy-Body Solvent Cement for Large-Bore Formats. When cementing this large 160 mm format into place on commercial drainage or return circuits, always utilize a heavy-body or extra-heavy-body PVC-specific solvent cement and clear primer loop. Standard thin PVC glues dry too quickly across large surface areas and lack the gap-filling properties required for 6-inch piping, which can result in structural micro-voids and subsequent leaks under high fluid weight.
- Use a Strict 24-Hour Cure Timeline Before Pressure Testing. Because 6-inch plumbing loops hold an immense volume of active water weight and exert high structural forces, always let your solvent joints cure for a minimum of 24 full hours before firing up high-volume loops. Letting the assembly sit allows the solvent chemicals to fully evaporate, locking the metric wall and the imperial adapter into a single, fused piece of plastic. Rushing water through a large fresh joint can weaken the chemical weld, creating microscopic tracking paths that will slowly leak under pressure.
