IceCap 150 GPD Reverse Osmosis Housing Upgrade Kit
Producing high volumes of purified zero-TDS water for large reef aquariums often results in substantial wastewater and lengthy reservoir fill times. The IceCap RO Housing Upgrade Kit to 150gpd (SKU: IP-RI-ROH150) is the official OEM water-saving piggyback expansion kit engineered to double the purification rate of 75 GPD Reverse Osmosis and RO/DI Systems.
Rather than running a single membrane that discards up to four gallons of wastewater for every gallon of product water, this piggyback system connects a secondary 75 GPD membrane in series with the primary membrane's concentrate (waste) line. Because pre-filtered wastewater has already passed through sediment and carbon stages, the secondary DOW Filmtec membrane extracts an equal volume of pure permeate water from the waste stream before it ever reaches the drain. This configuration doubles output from approximately 3 gallons per hour to 6 gallons per hour while cutting overall wastewater volume in half.
Operational Requirement: Operating dual membranes in series requires a minimum feed pressure of 65 PSI (with 65–90 PSI recommended) to properly drive water across both membranes without excessive pressure drop. A booster pump should be utilized if municipal line pressure falls below 65 PSI.
Ideal Application Scenario
If you operate an IceCap 75 GPD system (or standard third-party 75 GPD RO unit) and want to fill mixing reservoirs twice as fast while significantly lowering municipal water waste, installing the authentic IP-RI-ROH150 upgrade kit delivers immediate capacity and efficiency gains.

Installation & Setup Guidelines:
Turn off the cold water feed supply to the RO/DI system and depressurize the product line.
Unthread the cap from the new membrane housing, lubricate the rubber brine seal of the DOW Filmtec 75 GPD membrane with clean water, and slide the membrane fully into the housing stem-first until seated. Reseal the cap firmly.
Snap the two 2.5" x 2.5" standoff clips directly onto your existing system's primary membrane housing.
Press the new, loaded membrane housing into the open side of the standoff clips directly above the primary housing.
Disconnect the wastewater line from the primary membrane's waste port and route it directly into the feed water port (cap end) of the new secondary housing.
Connect the pure permeate water lines from both housings together using the included 1/4-inch tube splitter tee, routing the combined pure water stream into your DI stage.
Connect your 550 mL/min flow restrictor to the wastewater port of the secondary housing and direct the waste tube to your drain.
Reopen the feedwater supply, confirm water pressure reads 65 PSI or higher, check all push-fit connections for leaks, and flush the new membrane for 30–45 minutes prior to collecting water for reef use.
Pro Tips:
- Ensure Feed Pressure Reaches 65+ PSI. Because the secondary membrane is driven entirely by the brine discharge from the first housing, line friction and osmotic backpressure demand higher input pressure. If your supply reads below 65 PSI, pair this kit with the IceCap Booster Pump (IP-RI-BP01H) to avoid reduced rejection rates and poor output.
- Consider Adding a Dual DI Canister. While a dual-membrane series configuration saves huge volumes of wastewater, the secondary membrane treats water with higher concentrate TDS, which can slightly elevate the combined permeate TDS. To avoid rapidly exhausting mixed-bed DI resin, consider upgrading your polishing filtration to a dual-canister DI setup.
