IceCap Replacement Electronic Ballast for 18W, 27W, and 40W UV Sterilizers (SKU: IP-UV-BST1)

The IceCap Replacement Electronic Ballast for UV Sterilizers (SKU: IP-UV-BST1) is an authentic, multi-platform OEM electrical utility manager distributed by CoralVue to sustain continuous biological filtration. Germicidal ultraviolet filtration operates under highly intensive electrical constraints, utilizing specialized ballasts to send high-voltage ignition surges to strike a persistent mercury-vapor arc down the length of the internal light tube. Because these power bricks operate continuously beneath wet filtration stands, they face extreme cabinet humidity, high heat, and accidental saltwater splashing. Over years of non-stop operation, internal capacitors naturally wear down, circuit tracking lines degrade, or a direct moisture spray will cause a short-circuit. Swapping out a compromised transformer module for this fresh factory part instantly restores uncompromised biosecurity.

Molded within a robust, fire-retardant casing, the IP-UV-BST1 electronic manager is uniquely engineered to serve as a single replacement solution across several generations of the IceCap catalog. It features self-correcting output logic calibrated to safely drive the steady 800mA operational lines of the IceCap In-Sump 18W, 27W, and 40W models (IC-UVR Series) along with the standalone IceCap 27W and 40W High-Output External Inline UV Sterilizers (IC-HOUV Series). The integrated safety monitoring chip actively watches the bulb’s baseline resistance; the moment a lamp breaks down, cracks, or reaches the end of its useful lifespan, the ballast cuts high-voltage current paths instantly and flashes a localized alert to safeguard your property.

    Key Features

    • Eliminates Ghost Bulb Ignition Alerts: Corrects annoying, false audible error codes and red warning indicators caused by weak, aging transformer capacitors.

    • Maintains Exact 800mA Current Delivery: Supplies stable, ripple-free electrical power to keep delicate lamp filaments from prematurely degrading.

    • Instant Direct Plug Integration: The pre-molded terminal collar end matches the exact geometry tracking lines of your factory quartz sleeve caps.

    • (Note: This retail box includes (1) complete standalone electronic ballast with attached power and socket cables. High-output UVC lamps, clear quartz sleeves, sealing O-rings, and structural vessel hulls are sold under separate product categories).

    1. Unplug the failed or shorted UV ballast from your wall outlet or power bar. Shut down the feed pump line to allow the water column to cool down.
    2. Unthread the upper cord-retaining cap on the top collar of your sterilizer housing lid, and carefully draw the old ballast wire upward to slide the lamp assembly out of the dry quartz sleeve.
    3. Grip the base of your existing UV lamp envelope firmly with a clean cloth and pull it straight out of the old ballast’s terminal pin socket block. Set the bulb down safely on a soft towel.
    4. Mount your new IP-UV-BST1 ballast brick onto an interior cabinet wall using screws or heavy-duty hook-and-loop strips, making sure it is placed high above potential splash zones.
    5. Take your fresh ballast wiring lead, line up the pins on your UV lamp base, and press the bulb firmly into the socket block until it snaps completely flush.
    6. Lower the lamp back down into the dry center tracking line of your quartz sleeve. Hand-tighten the upper retention cap clockwise until secure, make a protective drip loop in the power cord, and plug the prongs into a GFCI-protected wall outlet.
    Pro Tips:
    • Always Differentiate Between a Damaged Ballast and a Burned-Out UV Lamp. When an IceCap system stops running and triggers a continuous beep alongside a red diagnostic light, it is usually signaling a dead UV lamp rather than a bad ballast. The smart board inside the IP-UV-BST1 drops into alert mode whenever a lamp filament burns out or loses contact. Before throwing away your current ballast module, try swapping in a fresh, compatible replacement bulb first. If the status light fails to turn green with a brand-new bulb installed, your ballast's internal circuit board has reached its end of life and needs to be replaced.
    • Keep the Outer Transformer Box Completely Shielded from Sump Splash Zones. While the molded terminal lead socket on this replacement wire harness is built to seal tightly into the neck tracking of the quartz sleeve, the main electronic ballast brick is completely non-waterproof. Leaving this transformer sitting flat on the floor of a sump closet where it can get sprayed by salt creep or covered in condensation will cause rapid electrical failure. Always mount the ballast block up high on your stand walls or cabinet ceiling to keep it dry and properly ventilated.
    • Never Plug the Ballast into Power Lines Until the Bulb is Fully Lowered and Sealed.

WARNING: Shortwave ultraviolet (UVC) radiation is invisible and incredibly hazardous to human eyes and bare skin. Never plug this replacement ballast into a live wall socket while the UV lamp is sitting loose on your workbench. Turning on the system while the bulb is unshielded can cause painful, permanent corneal eye damage and severe skin irritation in seconds. Always ensure the bulb is lowered entirely inside the opaque engineering polymer vessel with all tracking collars locked down tight before turning on the power source.
