Grazing reef fish—including Yellow Tangs, Hippo Tangs, Foxfaces, and Angelfish—require regular sheets of marine macroalgae (Nori) to maintain optimal immune health, vibrant tissue coloration, and proper digestive tract functionality. Traditional veggie clips rely on low-grade clear rubber suction cups that quickly harden, collect slime, and lose suction, leaving the clip to float into overflow boxes or get trapped behind rockwork. The IceCap magnetic series eliminates this hassle by locking onto your panels using powerful magnetic fields.
Constructed from heavy-wall, non-toxic reef-safe polymers, the IC-SW-01M features a broad, spring-loaded jaw lined with interlocking teeth. This layout prevents aggressive target feeders from tearing large chunks of seaweed free all at once, minimizing loose scraps that can float away and clog filter socks or rot inside tight rock cavities. This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Unbox the components. Inspect both the wet-side sealed plastic casing and the dry-side external magnet to ensure they are clean and free of transit debris.
- Take a sheet of dried marine seaweed or nori, fold it into a dense square or strip to increase holding thickness, press the clip lever open, and seat the seaweed deep into the plastic interlocking teeth.
- Wipe down the interior and exterior surfaces of your chosen display panel area to clear out any hard algae film or grit that could get caught behind the magnets.
- Place the wet-side clip assembly straight into the aquarium water against the interior glass wall.
- Slide, Do Not Snap: Bring the dry-side external magnetic backing pad to the outside of the glass several inches away from the internal clip. Slowly slide the dry magnet across the exterior glass until it aligns with the internal wet-side magnet. Warning: High-strength magnets can crush fingers or shatter glass panels if allowed to snap directly together.
- Once the seaweed is consumed, slide the external magnet up to the top trim line of your aquarium to lift the clip out of the water for reloading without getting your hands wet.
Pro Tips:
- Fold Your Seaweed Sheets into Multiple Layers to Defeat Aggressive Biters. Large, aggressive grazers like mature Sailfin Tangs or Naso Tangs can apply surprising leverage when ripping at food sheets. If you clip only a single thin layer of nori into the jaw, the paper-thin edge can shear and tear free within seconds, sending unconsumed sheets floating into your overflow. Fold your nori sheet over 3 to 4 times into a thick, compact rectangle before placing it into the clip to give the interlocking teeth a much stronger surface to grip.
- Check for Trapped Sand Grits If You Slide the Clip Low in Your Tank. If you slide the magnetic clip down toward the lower third of your display panel to feed bottom-dwelling blennies or shy fish, be careful not to drag it through sand or coarse substrate. Fine silica or calcium carbonate grains can easily get trapped behind the magnetic pads. Moving the magnet with grit trapped behind it will act like a glass cutter, leaving deep scratches across your panel. Always lift the external block slightly off the glass before changing feeding zones.
- Remove the Wet-Side Assembly When Not in Use to Maximize Longevity. While the internal magnet housing is sealed against high-salinity moisture creep, it is smart to remove the wet-side clip from the tank once your fish have finished grazing for the day. Taking 30 seconds to rinse the clip in fresh tap water and letting it dry on your counter keeps the structural tension high, prevents stubborn organic film and bryopsis from colonizing the plastic jaws, and extends the overall lifespan of the unit.
