Reef Octopus VarioS-8 Replacement Advanced Return Pump Controller (ROP-VAR8-CTL)

The Reef Octopus VarioS-8 Return Pump Controller (SKU: ROP-VARIOS8-CTL) is an authentic factory-spec electronic driver interface distributed by CoralVue to preserve the high-efficiency fluid movement, line monitoring, and automated safety failsafes of your primary circulation loop. Unlike generic step-down rheostats, an advanced heavy-duty DC return line driver must handle intense variable commutation loads while managing real-time data from auxiliary sensor networks. This module features highly stabilized, hard-coded microchips designed to manage a steady 36-volt current path, ensuring silent tracking and perfect motor synchronization even when operating under maximum head-height piping resistance across multi-tank systems.

The operational architecture of the ROP-VARIOS8-CTL focuses on complete system security. The faceplate features a clean, highly intuitive, weather-sealed membrane touchpad that gives you instant control over five distinct flow presets, helping you balance your high-volume overflow drains perfectly without touching physical plumbing gate valves. For advanced automation setups, the controller features a 0-10V input port that acts as a clean analog translator. This lets external automation networks run advanced variable current programs, storm profiles, or alternate day/night turnover rates natively. Additionally, the unit features an internal memory chip that saves your speed configuration during power outages, ensuring your display tank safely resumes turnover the moment backup power kicks on.

    Key Features

    • Built-In Float Switch Failsafe: Instantly shuts down the 36V motor if your sump water line drops too low or rises too high, protecting your investment from dry-running damage or display overflows.

    • Threaded Waterproof Union Interface: Utilizes an over-molded 3-conductor heavy locking jack connection to shield the primary electrical line from moisture or spray creep.

    • Dedicated Standalone Power Toggle: Includes an independent manual standby power switch on the key line, allowing you to instantly turn the wet-end engine off without reaching for the primary wall outlet brick.

    • Harmonic Noise Hum Mitigation: Advanced electrical grounding paths suppress electrical feedback noises, ensuring your variable-speed return line runs dead silent.

    Verified Hardware Compatibility

    • Reef Octopus Return Pump Infrastructure: Sized and calibrated explicitly as the matching factory replacement control block for the Reef Octopus VarioS-8 Controllable Return Water Pump.

    • (Note: This controller features specific internal programming and high-amperage gates mapped solely to the high-capacity 36V circulation parameters of the VarioS-8 return engine block. It is not compatible with specialized VarioS skimmer models, nor will it operate smaller 24V VarioS-2/4 or mid-frame VarioS-6 motor lines).

    What’s Included:

    • (1) Reef Octopus Replacement VarioS-8 Variable-Speed 5-Speed Return Pump Controller Module

    • (1) Custom Molded Plastic Wall Mounting Bracket Cradle

    • (Note: 36V AC/DC power supply bricks, low-voltage mechanical float switches, and main VarioS-8 pump bodies are sold separately).

    Technical Specs:

    • Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus VarioS-8 Circulation Pump Controller

    • SKU / Factory Part Identifier: ROP-VAR8-CTL (Factory Ref: RCV25225-CTL)

    • Operating Input Voltage Requirement: 36V DC Current Load (Up to 90W Peak Output Management)

    • Speed Configuration Settings: 5 Manual Preset Speeds + 15/60 Minute Dual Feed Cycles

    1. Disconnect the primary 36V power supply brick from the wall socket to completely eliminate live electricity before handling your controller cables.
    2. Unthread the knurled plastic compression sleeve on the 3-conductor motor cord attached to your old controller, and separate the multi-pin jack straight apart.
    3. Remove the broken module from the wall bracket, mount the new ROP-VARIOS8-CTL driver inside the clean cradle, and verify that the front face is clear of dust.
    4. Align the internal indexing tracking pins of your VarioS-8 motor line with the socket on the base of the new controller, push together firmly, and spin the locking sleeve clockwise until hand-tight.
    5. If you are using the included water level safeguard sensor, plug the float switch terminal into the designated port and press the physical "FS" button on the faceplate to activate monitoring.
    6. Connect your 36V power adapter brick back into the main line, verify that the blue speed LEDs light up, and press the plus/minus buttons to choose your desired system velocity.

    Pro Tips:

    • Never Hook or Unhook the Main Motor Cord While Power is Live. Whenever you need to take the return pump offline for regular maintenance or plumbing changes, always unplug the primary 36V transformer brick from the wall outlet before unscrewing the multi-pin motor cable from the bottom of this controller. Disconnecting or plugging in the main motor line while the driver is receiving live current can cause an instantaneous micro-arc across the connection pins. This sudden voltage spike can easily burn out the sensitive electronic logic board inside, instantly ruining your controller.
    • Keep the Float Switch Mode Disabled If No Sensor Is Connected. The controller features an integrated safety monitoring system controlled by the physical "FS" button. If this float switch tracking is turned on (indicated by the top green status LED), the controller actively looks for a closed circuit path from a water level sensor. If you turn this mode on but do not physically plug a float switch into the side port, or if you remove the switch during cleaning, the controller will read it as a critical system fault and lock out the pump completely, stopping all water flow.
    • Mount the Controller on the Outside of Your Cabinet Stand. Even though the front membrane touchpad is built to resist dust and minor splashes, this controller is a precision microprocessing module that should never be installed in high-humidity zones. Avoid mounting the driver inside enclosed, unventilated sump chambers where evaporating saltwater and heavy condensation can seep behind the casing. Mounting the controller on an external equipment board or an outside drywall panel protects the internal circuit board from long-term corrosion.
