IceCap 120INT Media Reactor Replacement Lid O-Ring

Operating fluidized media reactors—such as granular ferric oxide (GFO), activated carbon, or biopellets—requires maintaining reliable hydraulic pressure inside the reaction chamber. The IceCap Top Lid O-Ring for 120INT GFO Media Reactor (SKU: IP-ORING-GFO120INT) is the official OEM replacement top flange gasket engineered specifically for the IceCap 120INT Internal Media Reactor.

During normal reactor operation, water pumped through the central intake pipe pressurizes the chamber to fluidize media before exiting the top return. Seated inside the precision-machined groove along the reactor’s upper rim, this O-ring compresses beneath the thumbscrew-secured top lid. Over time, repeated compressions, exposure to fine particulate media, and salt encrustation can cause rubber gaskets to flatten, lose elasticity, or tear. A worn O-ring leads to rim weeping, bypass leakage, and lost tumbling velocity. Installing an authentic IP-ORING-GFO120INT gasket restores a dependable, watertight pressure seal.

    Ideal Replacement Scenario

If your IceCap 120INT reactor lid is weeping water along the flange perimeter, experiencing lost internal upflow pressure, or if the existing O-ring is stretched, cracked, or dry-rotted, swapping in the authentic IP-ORING-GFO120INT restores factory seal integrity.

    Installation & Replacement Guidelines:

    1. Turn off the reactor feed pump and disconnect plumbing to drain standing water from the body.

    2. Loosen and remove the top lid thumbscrews, then lift the lid plate off the reactor column.

    3. Carefully remove the old O-ring using your fingers or a non-marring plastic pick (avoid sharp metal tools to protect the acrylic groove).

    4. Clean the machined O-ring channel and the underside of the lid with a damp microfiber cloth to remove residual carbon dust or salt grit.

    5. Lightly coat the new IP-ORING-GFO120INT with a thin film of pure silicone lubricant to preserve elasticity and ease seating.

    6. Press the O-ring evenly into the channel groove without stretching or twisting.

    7. Place the top lid back on the reactor, align the screw holes, and tighten the nylon thumbscrews in a crisscross pattern by hand until evenly snug.

    Pro Tips:

    • Apply Pure Silicone Grease for Long Life. Before seating the new O-ring, apply a microscopically thin film of 100% aquarium-safe silicone lubricant. This keeps the elastomer pliable, prevents pinching when tightening the lid, and creates a superior hydraulic seal against fine carbon dust.
    • Tighten Screws in an Alternating Star Pattern. When securing the thumbscrews onto the reactor lid, tighten opposing pairs progressively rather than going in a continuous circle. Even, balanced downward pressure prevents pinching the O-ring or creating uneven gaps that invite leaks.
