CoralVue 40mm Metric U-PVC Pipe
The CoralVue 40mm Metric U-PVC Pipe (SKU: PVC-PIPE-40) is a premium, high-density structural conduit designed specifically for high-integrity plumbing networks in modern saltwater aquariums, commercial aquaculture facilities, and complex reef filtration manifolds. When integrating high-end European aquarium gear—such as specialized protein skimmers, return pumps, or custom sumps—traditional domestic Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 imperial pipes fail to align due to differing outer diameter standards. The PVC-PIPE-40 eliminates these sizing headaches, offering a flawless 40mm metric fitment that easily accommodates high-performance reef components.
Constructed from premium, food-safe unplasticized PVC (uPVC), this rigid pipe features an exceptionally smooth, non-porous interior bore. This design minimizes frictional resistance and drag, optimizing return flow from pumps while preventing micro-bubbles and organic detritus from building up along the pipeline. Its thick-wall construction ensures exceptional structural rigidity, reducing line vibration under high pressure while remaining easy to cut, chamfer, and solvent-weld using standard PVC adhesives.
Key Features
Zero Plasticizers: Formulated without softeners or volatile additives, ensuring it is 100% safe for highly sensitive marine invertebrates, corals, and delicate fish.
Standard Length Format: Supplied in easily shippable and workable lengths designed to span large sump cabinets without unnecessary intermediate coupling joints.
Excellent UV & Impact Resistance: Resists structural degradation under intense reef-lighting setups and holds up under structural pipe clamps.

While most of our equipment carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, consumable products like fish and coral foods are not covered under traditional warranty terms due to their perishable nature and varied storage conditions. However, we fully stand behind the quality of every product we sell. If you experience any issues with your food purchase shortly after receiving it, such as concerns about freshness, packaging integrity, or product quality, please contact us at [email protected]. We're committed to making it right and will work with you to resolve any problems quickly and fairly.
- Measure the required pipe run and mark the cut line on the 40mm pipe using a soft pencil or marker.
- Cut the pipe cleanly at a true 90-degree angle using a dedicated wheel cutter or a fine-tooth saw. Ensuring a square cut is essential for a secure fitment inside slip fittings.
- Use sandpaper, a utility knife, or a deburring tool to remove all plastic burrs and create a slight outer bevel (chamfer) on the cut edge of the pipe.
- Wipe the outside of the pipe end and the inside of the receiving female slip fitting with a clean dry cloth to remove dust, plastic shavings, and residual moisture.
- Apply a thin, even layer of PVC primer to the outer pipe end and inside the receiving slip port. While wet, apply an even coat of PVC solvent cement over both primed surfaces.
- Push the pipe firmly into the slip fitting until it bottoms out against the internal shoulder stop. Give the pipe a quick 1/4 turn to evenly distribute the cement, and hold it firmly in place for 15 seconds to prevent the joint from backing out as the glue sets up.
Pro Tips:
- Never Mix Metric and Imperial Pipe Standards Directly.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM PLUMBING DESIGN TIP: A 40mm metric pipe has an outer diameter of exactly 40mm, which is not compatible with standard 1-1/4" domestic imperial slip fittings (which have an actual inner diameter of ~42.2mm). Attempting to glue a 40mm metric pipe into a 1-1/4" imperial fitting will create a loose, unstable joint that will blow out under pressure. Always use metric-to-metric or specialized hybrid transition fittings.
- Always Chamfer the Cut Pipe Edge Prior to Gluing. Failing to bevel the outside edge of your freshly cut 40mm pipe creates a sharp, square corner. When you slide this unchamfered pipe into a primed slip fitting, the sharp edge acts like a scraper, pushing the wet solvent cement down to the bottom of the socket instead of leaving a uniform layer. Beveling the edge ensures a smooth slide and an even distribution of the cement matrix.
- Allow a Full 24-Hour Cure Time Before Filling with Saltwater. Although PVC solvent cement sets up and feels solid within minutes, do not introduce water or apply pressure to the newly glued 40mm lines immediately. Wait at least 2 to 4 hours for low-pressure lines, and a full 24 hours for pressurized pump return loops. Introducing corrosive saltwater to uncured joints can disrupt the chemical bond, causing micro-leaks or structural failures later down the line.
