- Ensure both 90mm metric pipe ends are cut perfectly square and thoroughly deburred.
- Clean the pipe ends and the internal sockets of the coupling with a dedicated PVC cleaner.
- Apply a generous layer of PVC primer to both the pipe ends and the inside of the coupling to soften the UPVC.
- Apply a liberal coat of heavy-duty solvent cement (specifically rated for large-diameter pipe) to both components.
- Push the pipes into the coupling until they hit the internal center stop, giving a quarter-turn to ensure even glue distribution.
- Hold firmly for 60 seconds. Allow at least 8–12 hours to cure before introducing high-pressure water.
Pro Tips:
- Metric vs. Standard. A 90mm metric coupling will not fit standard US 3-inch or 4-inch pipe. 90mm is approximately 3.54 inches, while US 3-inch pipe is 3.5 inches OD and US 4-inch pipe is 4.5 inches OD. Always verify your pipe size with a caliper before beginning a permanent solvent weld.
- Large Diameter Priming. On 90mm pipe, the surface area for the bond is massive. Proper priming is non-negotiable to ensure the solvent cement creates a true chemical weld. Use clear primer to maintain the clean, industrial aesthetic of your grey UPVC fittings.
- The Union Strategy. If you are repairing a 90mm line that is rigid and cannot be pulled apart, a standard coupling will be nearly impossible to slide on. In these scenarios, use a 90mm Metric Union to allow for a "drop-in" repair that can be hand-tightened.
