    • Genuine OEM Direct Replacement: Authentic factory-spec bottom slide mount tray engineered explicitly for mid-to-large frame 24V and 36V Reef Octopus controllable skimmer pumps.
    • Space Saver Track Compatibility: Specifically shaped to slide effortlessly onto the molded acrylic rail mounts built into the baseplates of 200SSS and 250SSS space-saving skimmer columns.
    • Integrated Vibration Suppression: Serves as a rigid isolation plane that dampens motor frequency oscillations to stop harmonic humming against sump glass or plastic dividers.
    • Toolless Slide-Lock System: Utilizes a precise mechanical dovetail slot interface that clips onto the pump stator body without requiring corrosion-prone metal screws.
    • Heavy-Wall Molded ABS Construction: Fabricated from solid, high-density red polymer composite built to withstand continuous submersed weight distributions and calcium build-up.
    • Streamlines Equipment Access: Facilitates swift, effortless removal of the engine block during routine seasonal pinwheel impellers cleanings and venturi washouts.

Reef Octopus VarioS 4S & 6S Replacement Space Saver Skimmer Pump Slide Base (ROP-VARBSE-468)

The Reef Octopus VarioS 4S & 6S Skimmer Pump Slide Base (SKU: ROP-VARBSE-468) is an authentic factory-spec structural mounting plate distributed by CoralVue to preserve the secure placement, balanced tracking, and silent operation of your mid-to-large frame skimmer motor block. In a space-saving (SSS) protein skimmer configuration, such as the Regal 200SSS, Regal 250SSS, or Elite 200SSS, the heavy VarioS pump does not sit loosely on the floor of the sump. Instead, it is tucked directly underneath or inside the primary cone reaction column. To mount the pump securely within such compact boundaries, the motor housing relies entirely on this specialized lower slide plate to lock directly into the skimmer’s molded internal base tracking.

    CoralVue

Over long-term submersible use, this structural piece is subjected to constant operational vibrations, heavy mineral scaling, and twisting forces during routine maintenance tear-downs. If the pump is forced out of its tracking or dropped during cleaning, the fine alignment ears on the plate can easily shear off, or the plastic can become brittle from calcification. Operating a high-velocity variable-speed DC skimmer pump with a broken or missing base template is highly problematic; it allows the pump to twist out of line, breaking the airtight seal on your venturi intake and creating an incredibly loud vibrating rattle against the skimmer's acrylic body. Swapping out a compromised bracket plate with this genuine original factory module instantly re-establishes a rock-solid, vibration-dampened foundation.

    Key Features

    • True Space Saver Alignment: Engineered with precise factory tolerances to match the exact spacing rails native to Reef Octopus 200/250-series SSS skimmer bases.

    • Anti-Vibration Engineering: Thick-walled plastic architecture creates a firm mechanical buffer zone that limits the transfer of low-frequency rotational hums.

    • Chemical-Inert Matte Red Polish: Matches the signature Reef Octopus aesthetic and is fully rated to handle aggressive descaling acid paths and continuous pure ozone exposure.

    • (Note: This replacement component includes the clip-on slide baseplate module only. Skimmer base acrylics, rubber isolation feet, impellers, and primary pump housings are sold separately).

    Verified Hardware Compatibility

    • Reef Octopus Mid-to-Large DC Infrastructure: Sized exclusively as the native clip-on baseplate for the VarioS-4S Controllable Skimmer Pump and the VarioS-6S Controllable Skimmer Pump.

    • Space Saver Body Formats: Serves as the factory matching mount plate for the inside-body layouts of the Regal 200SSS Space Saver Skimmer, Regal 250SSS Space Saver Skimmer, and Elite 200SSS Space Saver Super Cone Skimmer.

    What’s Included:

    • (1) Reef Octopus Replacement VarioS 4S / 6S Red Slide-Lock Skimmer Pump Mounting Base Plate

    • (Note: Base suction cups, rubber vibration dampening boots, and main pump stators are sold separately).

    Technical Specs:

    • Official Manufacturing Title: Reef Octopus VarioS 4, 6, & 8 Pump Base

    • SKU / Factory Part Identifier: ROP-VARBSE-468

    • Mounting Interface Style: Slide-In Dual Rail Dovetail Footprint

    • Material Matrix Composition: Saltwater-Safe High-Impact Injection-Molded Matte Red ABS

    • Primary Function: Pump Alignment Tracking, Rail Interlocking, & Vibration Cushioning

    1. Turn off your pump controller and pull the main 24V or 36V power transformer out of the wall to eliminate live electricity before handling your filtration equipment.
    2. Disconnect your flexible venturi air lines and slide the VarioS pump straight backward off the molded mounting rails inside your space saver skimmer body base.
    3. If the old base is still attached to your pump, press the small plastic release catch at the bottom edge of the stator housing and slide the plate forward to unclip it.
    4. Clean the matching tracking channels along the bottom of your white VarioS pump body to clear away any trapped sand grit, biological slime, or calcified salt creep.
    5. Take your new ROP-VARBSE-468 base plate, align its upper locking tracks with the bottom channels of the pump motor, and slide it back firmly until it snaps into place.
    6. Realign the pump assembly with the molded tracks on your space saver skimmer base plate, slide it completely forward to mate with your intake, and restore system power.

    Pro Tips:

    • Never Force the Pump Onto Skimmer Rails if Resistance is Felt. When sliding your reassembled pump back onto the acrylic base rails of your space saver skimmer, it should glide in smoothly with minimal pressure. If the pump jams or requires significant force to move forward, stop immediately. Pushing against heavy resistance usually means that hard calcium scale or a tiny pebble has logged inside the acrylic tracks. Forcing the pump forward will easily fracture the tracking ears on the brand-new base plate or split the skimmer's bottom acrylic plate.
    • Soak the Base in a Citric Acid Bath to Keep Tracks Smooth. Because the bottom of your skimmer pump sits in stagnant, low-flow zones right at the very base of your sump compartment, it acts as a magnet for settling detritus and calcium carbonate precipitation. Over time, rock-hard scale will build up along the slide-lock grooves of this plate. To prevent the pump from becoming permanently fused to its mounting track, soak the entire lower assembly in a warm bath of citric acid powder every 3 to 4 months to dissolve the mineral scale safely.
    • Inspect the Plate Alignment During Sump Deep Cleans. Whenever you pull your protein skimmer out of the sump for seasonal maintenance, take an extra 10 seconds to slide the pump completely off its base rails. Check the internal channels of the ROP-VARBSE-468 adapter for signs of hidden hairline cracks, bending, or excessive wear from structural vibrations. Catching and replacing a worn base plate early prevents the pump from vibrating loose in the middle of the night, which could disrupt your skimmer's foam level or cause fine microbubbles to escape into your display tank.
