    • Genuine OEM Direct Replacement: Authentic factory-spec water outlet stabilization component designed explicitly for Reef Octopus external, recirculating protein skimmers.
    • Non-Siphon Air Break Design: Functions as an open atmospheric vent line to disrupt water tension, preventing the drain lines from forming a continuous downward siphon.
    • Precise 20mm Dimensioning: Machined with an exact 20mm metric outer profile to press flawlessly into the standard factory plumbing output tee fitting.
    • Stabilized Internal Water Level: By breaking dynamic head-height suction, this open vertical bar keeps the water level inside the skimmer body absolutely steady.
    • High-Impact Molded Polymer: Constructed from heavy-duty, marine-grade PVC composite that safely handles salt encrustation and routine removal for cleaning.
    • Glue-Free Slide-On Fitment: Slides directly into your native outlet plumbing manifold, allowing for toolless maintenance and seasonal scale breakdown baths.

Reef Octopus External Skimmer Replacement Siphon Pipe (ROP-SIPHON)

The Reef Octopus External Skimmer Siphon Pipe (SKU: ROP-SIPHON), also referred to in factory diagrams as the non-siphon bar, is an authentic factory-spec replacement plumbing component distributed by CoralVue to preserve the strict internal water levels of your external recirculating protein skimmer loop. On a high-performance external skimmer setup, the discharge plumbing channels processed water out of the body and drops it back down into the open sump basin below. Because this path utilizes a sharp downward gravity drop, the falling water column can naturally form a powerful hydraulic siphon. If left unchecked, this siphon will forcefully suck water out of the skimmer body faster than the intake pump can replenish it. This sudden pressure drop drags the internal water line down, completely bottoming out the foam column and rendering the skimmer useless.

Inserting this specialized 20mm siphon pipe into the upper opening of your discharge assembly introduces a permanent channel of atmospheric air right at the apex of the plumbing loop. This open air injection completely shatters downward suction lines, ensuring the exit plumbing functions strictly as a relaxed, un-pressurized gravity drain. Over years of equipment handling, these thin vertical pipes can be easily misplaced during system moves, or salt creep can permanently cement the joint, leading to structural cracks if forced loose during routine maintenance. Swapping out a compromised or missing tube with this genuine OEM replacement part guarantees stable, predictable bubbling dynamics inside the reaction chamber, keeping your collection cup working at peak efficiency.

    Key Features

    • True Factory Sizing Matrix: Formed with a precise 20mm metric slip profile designed to drop securely into native Reef Octopus output manifold tee intersections.

    • Anti-Corrosive Material Blend: Fabricated from inert, saltwater-safe polymers that will never pit, leach compounds, or degrade under high-humidity aquarium stand conditions.

    • Polished Friction Seating Ring: Features a smooth, uniform outer wall finish that seals tightly without the use of permanent messy glues or chemical solvents.

    • Open-Top Backpressure Shield: Allows continuous environmental pressure equalization, completely dampening the harsh, bubbling, or chattering noises common to gravity drains.

    Verified Hardware Compatibility

    • Reef Octopus External Skimmer Series: Tailored explicitly as the correct replacement air-break siphon pipe for large-format external recirculating skimmers, including the Super Reef Octopus SRO-3000EXT, SRO-5000EXT, and SRO-6000EXT systems.

    1. Turn off your protein skimmer's feed pump and primary controllable skimmer pump to completely stop water movement through the discharge loop.
    2. Locate the output plumbing manifold layout on the exterior side of your skimmer body column, directly above the main adjustable gate valve.
    3. Pull the old, cracked, or clogged siphon pipe straight upward out of the top-facing branch socket of the plumbing tee fitting.
    4. Wipe out the interior channel of the open tee socket with a clean cloth to remove any built-up organic sludge, detritus, or hard salt creep.
    5. Push the bottom end of your new ROP-SIPHON replacement bar straight down into the open tee fitting until it is firmly and evenly seated.
    6. Restart your intake feed pump, verify that the open top of the pipe is venting air cleanly, and confirm that the internal skimmer water level remains stable.

    Pro Tips:

    • Never Glue or Cement This Siphon Break Line. Even though this pipe seats directly inline with your main discharge plumbing, you should never use permanent PVC cement, superglue, or plumbing tape to secure it. The siphon pipe is purposefully engineered as a dry friction fit so that it can be effortlessly slid out for quick cleanings. Gluing this line down permanently prevents you from running a cleaning brush down into the discharge manifold, leading to unremovable sludge build-up inside your drain paths over time.
    • Keep the Open Top Clear of Salt Creep. Because humid, moisture-laden air continuously vents out of the top of this open pipe, fine salt crystals will naturally begin to form right around the upper rim. If salt creep is left to accumulate for months, it can completely bridge and seal the open hole. If the vent becomes blocked, the plumbing will instantly form a full siphon, causing the water level inside your skimmer to fluctuate wildly. Take a second during your weekly cup maintenance to rinse the pipe under warm fresh water to keep the airway open.
    • Check the Rest Position After Pump Start-ups. Whenever you turn your skimmer pumps off for a water change or a feeding cycle, the rush of back-flowing water can create a minor air pocket that pushes upward against this pipe. When you fire the system back up, glance behind your cabinet to ensure the siphon pipe didn't accidentally pop slightly loose or tilt crookedly out of its socket. A loose alignment can allow fine misting spray to escape the joint, creating slow salt creep patterns down the side of your dry cabinet walls.
