Reef Octopus Classic 150-S Space Saver Protein Skimmer
The Reef Octopus Classic 150-S (SKU: CLSC-150S) is the perfect choice for marine hobbyists who need substantial filtration capacity but are dealing with restricted sump real estate. Rated for aquariums up to 210 gallons, this "Super Space Saver" model achieves its ultra-compact footprint by mounting the highly efficient Aquatrance 2000s pinwheel pump directly inside the 6-inch reaction chamber. This intelligent layout allows you to fit a true 6-inch skimmer into small sump compartments that would normally only accommodate lower-performing, undersized equipment.
Despite its compact build, the Classic 150-S compromises nothing on performance. It features a hand-crafted, high-grade cast acrylic hybrid cone body that minimizes internal water turbulence. This allows the micro-bubbles generated by the Aquatrance pump to rise steadily, forming a dense, concentrated foam column that carries dissolved organics cleanly into the collection cup. Complete with a turbulence-reducing bubble plate diffuser and a precision output gate valve, the Classic 150-S provides the ideal balance of space-saving geometry and aggressive nutrient export.
Key Features
Internal Pump Configuration: Minimizes the space required in your filtration chamber, leaving more room for heaters, refugiums, or media reactors.
Aquatrance 2000s Pump: Generates 720 L/H of air pull while running on a highly economical 18 Watts of power.
Bubble Diffuser Plate: Smoothly diffuses the pump's water discharge to stop turbulent bubbling from disrupting the foam neck.
Precision Gate Valve Control: Raised adjustment pipe lets you dial in the internal water level without putting your hands deep into the sump.
Quick-Release Collection Cup: Features a reliable neck seal for effortless removal and frequent maintenance.

Instructions:
- Verify that the internal Aquatrance 2000s pump is securely seated on the bottom plate and connected to the venturi line.
- Place the skimmer into your sump's filtration compartment, ensuring the water level is stable between 7 and 8 inches.
- Route the flexible airline up to the integrated air silencer on the side of the collection cup neck.
- Open the precision gate valve completely before connecting the pump power cord to a GFCI outlet.
- Allow the chamber to fill and begin frothing, then gradually close the gate valve to raise the water level to the base of the neck.
- Leave the skimmer to run undisturbed for 10–14 days to complete the mandatory initial acrylic break-in phase.
Pro Tips:
- Maintain Constant Sump Depth. Because the pump is nested inside the body, the internal pressure of the Classic 150-S is highly sensitive to the external water depth of your sump. To prevent irregular performance or accidental cup overflows, we strongly recommend using a reliable Auto Top Off (ATO) system to keep your water level consistently at 7.5 inches.
- Cleaning the Internal Intake. Due to the space-saving internal pump design, the pump intake sits close to the bottom of the skimmer plate. Check this area every few weeks to make sure it hasn't sucked in stray macroalgae, debris, or tiny pests like stomatella snails, which can choke the air intake.
- Accelerate the Break-In. If your brand-new skimmer is over-foaming aggressively right out of the box, it is reacting to manufacturing residues on the acrylic. You can speed up the break-in process by thoroughly washing the disassembled body with warm water and a clean microfiber cloth (never use soap or chemicals!) before installing it.
