- Ensure both 25mm metric rigid pipes are cut perfectly square at a 90-degree angle and completely deburred along the edge.
- Thoroughly wipe down the interior sockets of the sweep elbow and the exterior tips of the mating pipes using a dry cloth to eliminate dust.
- Apply a thin, consistent layer of high-quality PVC primer to the inside of both sweep elbow sockets and the outside of the 25mm pipe tips.
- While the primer is active, apply an even layer of PVC solvent cement over the primed areas.
- Insert the 25mm pipe firmly into the sweep elbow socket until it seats completely against the internal stop, turning it roughly 1/4 turn to distribute the cement evenly.
- Hold the joint under firm pressure for 15 to 20 seconds to prevent the pipe from backing out while the cement sets. Repeat for the second port.
- Let the system cure undisturbed for a full 24 hours before filling it with water or testing it under dynamic system pressure.
- Do Not Attempt to Glue Imperial Pipe Directly Into This Metric Fitting.
CRITICAL AQUARIUM PLUMBING DESIGN TIP: This sweeping elbow is engineered strictly to metric manufacturing specifications. The dual internal sockets accommodate only standard 25mm metric rigid pipe. Do not attempt to force standard domestic 3/4" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 pipe into these slip ports. The dimensional variances will cause structural joint failure or catastrophic leaks under standard system pressure.
- Accounting for Space Constraints. Due to the optimized, extended radius design that minimizes fluid friction, sweep elbows are physically longer than traditional hard-angle 90-degree elbows. Ensure you map out your cabinet spatial margins in advance, particularly when trying to fit multiple returns or manifold drops into compact sump spaces.
- Laminar Flow Maintenance. To gain the maximum structural benefit of a sweep elbow on your return line, try to allow a straight run of at least 3 to 4 inches of rigid pipe before and after the fitting. This permits the water column to fully stabilize into an efficient laminar flow state, shedding fluid turbulence before entering your bulkheads or display returns.
