Why Free Ammonia (NH3) Monitoring Matters for Ponds?
Total ammonia in pond water exists in two forms: ionized ammonium (NH4⁺), which is relatively harmless to fish, and un-ionized free ammonia (NH3), which is acutely toxic even at low concentrations. The ratio between the two shifts with pH and temperature — as pH and temperature rise in a pond (as they naturally do on warm, sunny days), a greater proportion of total ammonia becomes the toxic NH3 form. This means a pond that tests at a "safe" total ammonia level in the morning can reach fish-toxic free ammonia levels by afternoon without any additional ammonia input. The Seneye Pond V6 monitors NH3 directly at the concentrations that matter, rather than total ammonia, making it significantly more useful for real-time fish safety assessment than a standard test kit.
Pro Tips:
- Position the Pond V6 in an area of active water flow, not a dead zone. The monitor measures the water it's in contact with. Floating it in a stagnant corner of the pond can give readings that don't represent the pond as a whole. Place it near a waterfall return, filter outflow, or other area where pond water circulates actively.
- Set up SMS alerts before stocking new fish. The highest-risk window for ammonia spikes in a pond is during initial stocking or after a large addition of fish. Having SMS alerts active before this period means you'll be notified immediately if ammonia rises — not when you check the app hours later.
- Use the DRi Box for all outdoor electrical connections, not just the SWS. The IP55-rated enclosure is large enough to house a 4-way power strip. Running all pond electrical connections — pump, UV sterilizer, SWS power — through the DRi gives a single protected point for all pond power, which simplifies outdoor electrical management and reduces weathering risk on multiple separate connections.

- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
