Reef Octopus BR2000SS Space Saver Biopellet Reactor
The Reef Octopus BR2000SS Space Saver Biopellet Reactor is the ultimate solution for large-scale nutrient management in space-constrained sumps. Designed for systems up to 400 gallons, this reactor utilizes an internal pump configuration to drastically reduce its footprint. By housing the high-performance Water Blaster 2000 pump directly within the reactor base, the BR2000SS provides professional-grade filtration capacity without the sprawling footprint of a traditional external-pump unit.
At the heart of the BR2000SS is a specialized fluidizing cone bottom that works in tandem with the Water Blaster pump to create a perfect media tumble. This constant cyclone motion ensures that every biopellet remains in suspension, maximizing the surface area available for beneficial bacteria to colonize and strip nitrates and phosphates from your aquarium water. Constructed from heavy-duty, hand-polished acrylic, the 3.5-liter reaction chamber allows you to easily monitor media levels and performance in even the most demanding marine environments.
Key Features
• Space-Saving Internal Pump: Drastically reduces the required sump area by mounting the pump inside the reactor body.
• Water Blaster 2000 Pump: Includes a premium, high-efficiency pump known for its longevity and powerful head pressure.
• High-Volume Capacity: Holds up to 2 liters of biopellet media for aggressive carbon dosing in large systems.
• Fluidizing Cone Design: The conical base plate ensures uniform water distribution and prevents biopellets from clumping.
• Professional Grade Construction: Crafted from durable, cell-cast acrylic for maximum clarity and structural integrity.
• Integrated Sieve Plates: Precision internal screens keep media securely contained within the chamber at all flow rates.
Ideal For
• Large-scale reef and mixed-species aquariums up to 400 gallons with high nitrate levels.
• Hobbyists with complex filtration rooms where sump real estate is strictly limited.
• Systems with heavy fish populations that require a high volume of media for nutrient export.
• Advanced reefers who want a high-performance reactor with a top-tier, reliable pump.
• SPS-dominant tanks where maintaining ultra-low phosphate and nitrate is a priority.

- Carefully unpack the reactor and verify the internal Water Blaster pump is seated and connected.
- Add up to 3.5L of pre-soaked biopellet media to the reaction chamber.
- Inspect the main lid O-ring and seat it correctly before tightening the lid.
- Place the reactor in a stable area of your sump with a consistent water level.
- Plug in the Water Blaster 2000 and observe the media; adjust the flow if necessary to achieve a steady tumble.
- Check for any bacterial mulm buildup on the sieve plates during weekly maintenance.
Pro Tips
Take advantage of the Water Blaster's power to maintain heavy media loads. As the reactor processes nutrients, the biopellet media can become heavy with bacterial film. The high head pressure of the HY-2000 pump is perfect for keeping 3+ liters of media in motion even when fully colonized.
Pre-soak your biopellets for at least 24 hours. To prevent the large volume of media from floating and clogging the upper sieve plates during startup, ensure all air is removed by soaking the pellets in aquarium water beforehand.
Position the reactor return near the intake of your protein skimmer. This is crucial for large systems. The bacteria produced in the BR2000SS are best removed by the skimmer to ensure the nutrients are physically exported from the water column.
