Adapting wavemaker configurations to fit smaller aquariums, tight corner clearances, or specific aquascaping layouts often requires modifying pump dimensions. The IceCap Gyre 1K/2K Cap (SKU: IC-2KCAP) is the official OEM replacement motor block cap designed specifically for IceCap 1K and IceCap 2K Gyre Flow Pumps.
While IceCap Gyre pumps operate as dual-sided crossflow wavemakers out of the box, aquarists can convert the unit into a compact, single-sided pump by removing one propeller cage assembly. The IC-2KCAP twists securely onto the open motor block port, capping off the unused drive socket. This preserves internal motor chamber integrity, prevents detritus or snails from entering the drive hub, and maintains proper internal water pressure dynamics.

Installation & Set-Up Guidelines:
Disconnect power to your IceCap Gyre controller and remove the pump from the aquarium.
Twist and slide off one side's directional flow cage, propeller, and ceramic shaft assembly.
Clean any calcified algae or debris from the exposed motor block connection teeth.
Align the locking tabs on the IC-2KCAP with the grooves on the open side of the motor housing.
Push firmly and twist clockwise until the cap locks securely into place, then reinstall the pump into your tank.
Pro Tips:
- Keep the Unused Cage Assembly Safe. When running your Gyre pump in single-side mode with the IC-2KCAP, store the removed cage, shaft, and propeller in a labeled zip bag. Having the secondary cage ready allows easy conversion back to full dual-side operation if you upgrade to a larger tank.
- Inspect the Cap Seal During Routine Cleaning. Every 3 to 6 months during your routine pump soak, remove the IC-2KCAP to ensure no organic waste or calcium buildup has accumulated inside the capped motor cavity. Clean with a soft brush and citric acid solution before reassembling.
