IceCap Magnetic Aquarium Test Kit Mixer — Portable Stirrer

The IceCap Magnetic Aquarium Test Kit Mixer (SKU: IC-NS1) is an authentic, laboratory-grade testing accessory distributed by CoralVue to bring absolute consistency, speed, and comfort to your regular marine reef and freshwater water chemistry tracking. Anyone who tests parameters like calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, or low-range nitrate knows that manual shaking is a hassle. If you do not swirl the vial with perfect consistency while dripping titrant, localized reagent saturation can skew your color changes, leading to false high or low readings. The IceCap Magnetic Mixer takes the human error out of the equation entirely by maintaining a perfectly steady, hands-free mixing vortex.

Housed in a water-resistant, ultra-compact chassis, this high-performance gadget features a strong magnetic drive core that effortlessly couples with the included mini stirring bar. Simply drop the bar into your testing vial, place it on the non-slip center base plate, and tap the power button. The mixer instantly generates a smooth, whisper-quiet whirlpool that quickly breaks down stubborn powder pillows and blends liquid droplets instantly. Powered by an internal rechargeable battery cell rather than expensive disposable alkaline batteries, it delivers up to two full hours of continuous stirring per charge—giving you enough juice for weeks of intensive multi-tank testing arrays.

Key Features:

  • Eliminate Wrist Strain and Fatigue: Perfect for advanced aquarists tracking complex parameters requiring slow, multi-drop manual additions and long shaking intervals.

  • Guarantees Repeatable Lab Accuracy: Keeps the water sample spinning at an identical kinetic velocity across every test, ensuring highly consistent and trusted results.

  • Smart Power Calibration System: The built-in 5-minute auto-timer handles the tracking for you, shutting down the magnetic fields automatically if you step away from the workbench.

Instructions:

  1. Unbox the mixer. Plug the included USB charging cable into a 5V power adapter block. Connect it to the mixer base; a solid red LED indicates charging, and it turns crisp green when fully charged.
  2. Fill your testing vial with your aquarium water sample per your specific test kit instructions (e.g., Salifert, Red Sea, Aquaforest, API).

  3. Gently drop the included plastic-coated magnetic stir bar straight down into the fluid vial, and place the vial squarely onto the center circular ring of the stir base.

  4. Tap the front power button. A vibrant blue operational ring light will illuminate as the magnetic motor spins up to create a stable, quiet fluid vortex.

  5. Add your liquid drops or powder reagent pillows directly into the swirling water sample. The mixer will blend the additions instantly. Add your titrations drop-by-drop until the precise color change transition occurs.

  6. Press the power button again to turn the unit off when finished. Note: If left running, the smart timer will shut down the motor automatically after 5 minutes to prevent battery drain. Rinse the stir bar thoroughly in fresh RO/DI water between parameters.

Pro Tips:

  • Keep a Magnetic Retrieval Pen Handy to Stop Stir Bars from Going Down the Sink. The single most common accident with automatic test kit mixers is accidentally dumping the tiny magnetic stir bar straight down the sink drain when rinsing out vials between tests. To safeguard against losing your hardware, use a dedicated plastic-coated magnetic wand tool or press a strong neodymium magnet against the bottom exterior of the vial while dumping waste liquid into the sink—this keeps the stir bar pinned securely inside the tube.
  • Rinse the Stir Bar Thoroughly with Fresh RO/DI Water Between Different Tests. If you are running back-to-back tests for calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, cross-contamination on the stir bar's outer plastic jacket can easily taint your next water sample, causing false shifts in your coloration lines. Keep a small cup of fresh RO/DI water next to your test station. Dip and wipe down the stir bar completely with a clean paper towel after every parameter run to guarantee high data purity.
  • Do Not Force Extra Large Vials onto the Ring to Prevent Magnetic De-Coupling. While the IC-NS1 handles popular vials like Salifert, API, and Red Sea flawlessly up to its 1-inch diameter limit, trying to balance extra-wide or heavy flat-bottomed jars can push the internal bar too far away from the magnetic field core. If the distance is too large, the magnets can lose connection ("de-couple"), causing the bar to rattle loudly instead of spinning. Always ensure the vial centers perfectly over the core indicator line.
