How to Replace the Volute Cover:
Completely disconnect power to the pump and isolate plumbing using inline valves before removing the pump from service.
Remove the four titanium perimeter screws securing the old volute cover to the main motor block using a Phillips screwdriver.
Carefully pull the old volute cover off the motor housing.
Inspect the main rubber EPDM O-ring gasket. Clean any detritus, sand, or calcium buildup out of the sealing track on the motor housing.
Apply a tiny film of reef-safe silicone lubricant to the rubber O-ring and seat it firmly into the gasket groove.
Align the new ROP-WB16000-VOL cover over the impeller assembly in your desired discharge orientation (0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees).
Hand-thread the four titanium screws into the mounting holes and tighten incrementally in a star pattern until snug.
Pro Tips:
Do Not Over-Torque Screws into Plastic.
CRITICAL ASSEMBLY WARNING: When fastening the volute cover to the motor block, tighten the screws until hand-snug and the internal O-ring is evenly compressed. Never use electric drivers or excessive manual torque, as over-tightening can strip the plastic receiving threads inside the motor body or crack the mounting flange ears on the volute.
Check and Lubricate the O-Ring Seal. Always inspect the rubber sealing O-ring whenever replacing a volute housing. If the O-ring is dry, cracked, or flattened, replace it alongside the volute to ensure a 100% leak-proof seal—especially if operating the pump in an external (inline) dry application.
Hand-Tighten Threaded Plumbing Connections. When threading PVC adapters or quick-disconnect unions onto the intake and discharge ports of the new volute, wrap the male threads with 2–3 turns of PTFE thread tape and tighten by hand. Using pipe wrenches on plastic volute threads can stress and fracture the port neck.
