The Reef Octopus NS80 Nano Skimmer (SKU: OCT-NS80) brings high-efficiency organic extraction technology down to small-scale and nano reef aquariums up to 25 gallons. While small desktop marine displays and all-in-one (AIO) cubes are highly popular, their limited water volume makes them exceptionally vulnerable to rapid nutrient spikes from fish waste and overfeeding. The NS80 tackles this vulnerability by scaling down the exact same mechanical fractionation principles utilized in commercial reef sumps, continuously removing dissolved organic compounds before they can break down into harmful nitrates and phosphates.
Propelled by the robust OTP 200s pinwheel pump, this compact workhorse draws an efficient 5 Watts while aggressively slicing incoming air into an ultra-dense column of micro-bubbles. To combat the common problem of media compaction and erratic water levels in tight quarters, the NS80 incorporates an integrated raiser pipe tuning column. By simply twisting the pipe, you alter the internal backpressure to effortlessly shift between dry, concentrated waste collection or a wetter, rapid chemical flush. Built from durable cast acrylic and finished with a flexible, sliding mounting bracket, the NS80 can be deployed directly in the display, hidden within a rear filter compartment, or submersed in an ultra-miniature sump.

This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Slide the positionable mounting bracket onto the side track of the 2-inch acrylic skimmer body.
Position the NS80 inside your nano aquarium's rear filtration chamber or directly along the back wall of your display tank.
Secure the bracket clamp over the rim of the glass, ensuring the skimmer pump sits fully submersed beneath the operational water line.
Verify that the collection cup and its internal sealing collar are firmly pushed into the top neck opening.
Plug the OTP 200s power cord into a dedicated GFCI outlet to immediately start the air fractionating pinwheel.
Let the skimmer run for 48 hours to break in, then slowly turn the adjustable raiser pipe until the internal micro-bubble foam line settles right at the base of the collection cup neck.
Pro Tips:
- The Break-In Window. Like all brand-new protein skimmers, the NS80 is coated in micro-residues from the manufacturing process. During its first 3 to 7 days of operation, the skimmer may foam erratically or over-collect clear water. Avoid making aggressive structural adjustments during this break-in window; keep the raiser pipe wide open and let the plastic condition to the tank's water chemistry.
- Keep the Venturi Clean. If you notice a sudden drop in the density of your micro-bubbles or a rising water level inside the skimmer chamber, check the tiny air inlet nipple (venturi) on the pump intake. Salt creep can slowly crystallize inside this air passageway, choking the pump's air supply. Simply dip the air line into a small cup of warm RO/DI water while the pump is running to instantly dissolve the salt buildup.
- Maintain a Consistent Water Line. Because the NS80 is an internal, in-tank protein skimmer, its internal skimming level fluctuates based on the water level of the aquarium section it sits in. To lock in stable, consistent performance, we strongly advocate pairing your nano aquarium with an automatic top-off system (ATO) to prevent evaporation drops from shifting your skimmer's performance.
