The IceCap Reef Sump 24 features a built-in freshwater top-off reservoir designed to automate top-off refills right from the sump footprint. Without a snug-fitting lid, this storage chamber remains exposed to airborne dust, splashing from active drain lines, and stray light from nearby refugium lamps that can trigger algae blooms inside your pure RO/DI water. Lid 3 drops directly over the freshwater section, forming a protective barrier that seals out external debris, curbs top-off evaporation, and preserves water purity. Over years of use, lids can crack if dropped, warp under close-proximity heating elements, or become lost during tank maintenance. Installation & Replacement Guidelines:
Remove any remnants of the damaged or old lid from the freshwater reservoir chamber rim.
Wipe down the upper rim and recessed seating ledge of the chamber with a clean microfiber cloth to remove salt dust and moisture.
Rinse the new IP-RS24-L3 acrylic lid with fresh RO/DI water to clear any packing dust.
Route your auto top-off pump power cable and water feed tubing through the factory clearance notch.
Lower the lid flat onto the recessed lip of the freshwater reservoir chamber, ensuring it sits level and stable without pinching lines.
Pro Tips:
- Wipe Down the Divider Before Refilling. When adding fresh RO/DI water to the top-off reservoir, wipe down the adjacent divider wall and rim first. This prevents dried salt creep or stray minerals from falling into the freshwater reservoir and altering your display tank's salinity.
- Clean with Water or Mild Citric Acid Only. Never use household glass cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol on acrylic sump lids, as chemical solvents cause micro-fracturing (crazing) and cloudiness. To remove stubborn water spots, soak the lid in a warm citric acid bath and wipe clean with a soft microfiber cloth.
