Maintaining total water clarity and low nutrient levels in large-scale aquatic displays requires heavy-duty waste extraction equipment. The Reef Octopus Q6 Commercial Foam Fractionator (SKU: OCTO-Q6) is an industrial protein skimmer built specifically for public aquariums, aquaculture research facilities, commercial fish holding systems, and massive reef displays up to 10,000 gallons. Designed to operate under intense bioload conditions, the Q6 continuously strips dissolved organic compounds (DOCs), proteins, fine particulate matter, and yellowing pigments out of the water column before they break down into toxic ammonia and nitrate.
Constructed from heavy-walled, high-density cell-cast acrylic and industrial PVC, the Q6 features an extra-wide reaction body that maximizes water-to-air contact time. The skimmer utilizes a multi-pump air-injection system that forces fine microbubbles through the reaction column, creating a dense, stable foam head that rises into the oversized collection chamber.
Built for Low-Maintenance Commercial Duty
Commercial facilities cannot afford constant downtime for manual cleaning. The OCTO-Q6 is designed with integrated cleaning spray nozzles inside the neck collar. By connecting an automated wash line, operators can periodically flush the neck of built-up organic sludge without disassembling the skimmer, maintaining maximum foam production around the clock.

CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Installation & Set-Up Guidelines:
- Uncrate the Q6 skimmer body on a flat, level concrete or reinforced platform near your filtration sump.
- Mount the three Bubble Blaster HY-10000s pumps to the recirculating ports on the lower chamber body.
- Plumb your raw water feed line from a dedicated supply pump to the 1.5-inch or 2-inch feed inlet fitting.
- Plumb the 3-inch PVC discharge outlet back into your sump or return reservoir, ensuring gravity return flow.
- Fill the main chamber with water, start the feed supply pump (2,700–3,500 GPH), and plug in the three HY-10000s pumps.
- Adjust the output gate valve to set internal water level roughly 2–3 inches below the base of the skimmer neck.
Pro Tips
Recommended feed pump pairing. To feed the Q6 efficiently, pair the unit with a high-flow external return pump such as the Reef Octopus Water Blaster HY-10000 set to deliver 2,700–3,500 GPH into the feed port.
Plumb the drain directly to a waste line. With a 6-gallon collection cup capacity, high-bio-load commercial systems can generate large volumes of wet skimmate quickly. Connect reinforced tubing to the collection cup drain fitting leading straight to a floor drain or large waste containment vessel.
Schedule regular neck wiping. Rotate the integrated collection cup neck cleaner daily. Keeping organic "skimmer mud" off the 10-inch neck wall reduces bubble resistance and ensures the skimmer maintains its maximum 13,627 L/H air processing rate.
