Prop Impeller Water Pump up to 925gph for Return and Reactor Feed Use

The Reef Octopus Aquatrance 3000 is a prop impeller water pump for return pump and reactor feed applications in marine and freshwater aquariums. It moves up to 925gph at a maximum head of 9.2ft and draws 65 watts on a standard 120V/60Hz circuit. Installation is submersed or external, with an adjustable flow intake and included hose barb adapters for flexible plumbing.

The hard plumb outlet is 3/4in and the hose barb connection is 0.98in. The impeller is easy to access for maintenance and cleaning. An optional CR140(D) upgrade plumbing kit is available on this page for builds that require different plumbing connections.
One important note on application: the AQ-3000 is not a pressure-rated pump. It is not suited for second-floor return runs or for feeding Beckett or downdraft skimmers where consistent line pressure is required.

Key Features:

  • Max flow: 925gph
  • Max head: 9.2ft
  • Power consumption: 65 watts
  • Voltage: 120V / 60Hz
  • Prop impeller design with easy-access impeller for maintenance
  • Adjustable flow intake
  • Hard plumb outlet: 3/4in; hose barb connection: 0.98in
  • Submersed or external installation
  • Includes hose barb adapters
  • Optional CR140(D) upgrade plumbing available
  • Not pressure rated — not suitable for second-floor runs or Beckett/downdraft skimmer feed

Ideal For:

  • Sump return pump duty on mid-size reef and marine aquariums
  • Feed pump for media reactors, calcium reactors, and recirculating skimmers requiring steady, moderate flow
  • Freshwater circulation and return applications where a reliable, accessible pump is needed
  • Builds where external installation keeps heat out of the water column
  • Setups where a plumbing upgrade via the optional CR140(D) kit is desired

Pro Tips:

  • Plan for head pressure before purchasing. At 9.2ft max head, the AQ-3000 handles moderate return runs well, but real-world flow drops significantly with every foot of rise, elbow, and fitting in the line. Calculate your estimated head pressure and confirm the pump's curve supports your target flow rate before installation.
  • Use it as a dedicated reactor feed pump. The AQ-3000's 925gph max and adjustable flow intake make it a practical dedicated feed pump for larger calcium reactors or recirculating skimmers. Running a separate feed pump isolates that flow from your return line and makes tuning easier.
  • Keep the impeller clean. The AQ-3000 is designed with easy impeller access, which is worth using. Salt creep, coralline, and debris can accumulate on the impeller and reduce flow efficiency over time. A quick rinse during routine maintenance keeps output consistent.

Instructions:

  1. Determine whether the pump will be installed submersed or externally before placing it in your sump or equipment area.
  2. For submersed installation, place the pump in the return section of your sump. Confirm the water level will remain above the pump inlet at all times to prevent dry running.
  3. For external installation, position the pump so the inlet draws from below the water surface. Confirm all fittings are secure and airtight before powering on.
  4. Attach the appropriate hose barb adapter or hard plumb fitting to the 3/4in outlet for your plumbing configuration. If using the optional CR140(D) upgrade plumbing kit, install it now per the kit instructions.
  5. Adjust the flow intake to your desired setting before powering on.
  6. Connect the pump to a grounded 120V/60Hz outlet. For return pump use, connect to a controller or smart outlet if shutoff automation is desired.
  7. Power on the pump and confirm flow at the return outlet or reactor inlet before leaving unattended.
  8. For reactor feed use, adjust flow rate at the reactor's flow valve rather than restricting the pump inlet.
  9. To access the impeller for maintenance, follow the disassembly instructions in the pump assembly diagram linked below.
