Standing apart from traditional internal skimmers, the Classic 150EXT relies on a dual-flow recirculating configuration. The onboard Aquatrance 2000s pinwheel pump dedicates 100% of its performance to continuously shredding air and water inside the 6-inch chamber. A separate, dedicated feed pump or a direct plumbed line from the tank overflow (sold separately) dictates the water flow-through rate—giving you surgical control over nutrient contact time.
Handcrafted from durable, optical-grade cast acrylic, the Classic 150EXT features a specialized hybrid body that naturally calms internal water churning. CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
Instructions:
- Assemble the skimmer chamber plumbing unions, verifying the internal bubble plate diffuser and all O-rings are firmly aligned.
- Secure the Aquatrance 2000s recirculation pump to the lower external body fittings using the provided union twist locks.
- Position the skimmer on a sturdy, level surface. The unit is designed to run perfectly outside of a sump setup or inside a large dry cabinet chamber.
- Plumb a dedicated, controllable feed pump (200–400 GPH recommended) to the 0.5-inch water inlet pipeline.
- Activate the feed water pump first to completely fill the skimmer reaction body before powering up the main recirculation loop.
- Connect the Aquatrance 2000s to a GFCI outlet and turn the gate valve until the micro-bubble foam line reaches the base of the inner neck.
Pro Tips:
- Optimize Your Dwell Time. Because the 150EXT is a recirculating external unit, slowing down the feed rate can yield spectacular results. For densely packed reef tanks loaded with fish, restrict your feed pump closer to 200–250 GPH. Giving the raw tank water a longer residence time inside the dense bubble cloud maximizes protein extraction, producing incredibly dark skimmate.
- Safety First Outdoors. While the Classic 150EXT features professional watertight sealing properties, we highly recommend sitting any externally mounted skimmer or media reactor inside a shallow plastic utility tray equipped with a localized water-leak sensor for ultimate home safety.
- Inlet Flow Adjustments. We suggest placing a high-quality ball valve on the incoming feed line before it enters the skimmer body. This makes it effortless to regulate the water volume tracking through the skimmer without causing back pressure on the independent, high-performance Aquatrance loop.
