- Turn off your VarioS-6 controller and unplug the primary power transformer from the wall outlet to eliminate all live electricity before servicing your plumbing.
- Close all inline valves along your return manifold track to isolate the pump wet end and prevent downward siphoning water from your display tank.
- Hand-turn the old, cracked, or stripped vertical output union nut counter-clockwise to decouple the pump volute from your rigid piping layout.
- Clean the male union threads on the pump's white volute cover face to clear away any trapped detritus, sand grit, or calcified salt creep.
- Place your selected tailpiece (Slip PVC or Hose Barb) inside the new ROP-PB-VARIOS6 union nut, seat your rubber sealing gasket flat into the inner rim, and slide the collar over the threads.
- Hand-tighten the union collar clockwise onto the volute nozzle until snug. Do not use channel locks or metal pipe wrenches, as over-tightening will split the plastic.
- Never Use Metal Wrenches on Plastic Union Collars. When securing this replacement union collar nut onto the male threads of your pump's volute, always tighten the ring entirely by hand. The threads are cut from precision polymers engineered to create an airtight seal using manual torque alone. Utilizing heavy metal channel locks, strap wrenches, or pipe pliers will apply uneven pressure across the ring, instantly cross-threading the tracks or splitting the heavy-walled collar face completely open.
- Support the Weight of Heavy Rigid Manifolds. If you are plumbing this output adapter directly into a complex, rigid PVC manifold network filled with heavy ball valves, check valves, and media reactor feed lines, ensure the overhead piping is independently braced. Allowing the dead weight of a heavy, water-filled vertical PVC track to hang entirely off the pump's output tailpiece creates massive, continuous leverage. Over time, that structural stress will snap the union collar tabs or cause the volute cover to develop hairline stress fractures.
- Lubricate the Internal Union O-Ring for a Perfect Seal.
