Reef Octopus BioChurn CR-250PRO Commercial Calcium Reactor

The Reef Octopus BioChurn CR-250PRO (SKU: OCT-CR250PRO) is an industrial-grade, large-scale external calcium reactor engineered to handle severe calcium and alkalinity demands in massive marine systems up to 1,000 gallons. When executing water quality management on a commercial scale, standard hobbyist reactors quickly fall short under dense biological coral loads. The CR-250PRO resolves this limitation by introducing an automated, high-capacity fluidizing column. By circulating raw system water through its spacious 10-inch chamber alongside regulated carbon dioxide (CO2), it safely drops the internal pH to an acidic state, continuously melting down raw aragonite media into bio-available calcium, carbonates, magnesium, and essential trace elements.

At the heart of the CR-250PRO's elite performance is its proprietary Power Churn configuration. Traditional large-scale calcium reactors often allow heavy media substrate to compress, pack down, and solidify into cement-like bricks over time, creating toxic anaerobic pockets and choking flow. The CR-250PRO bypasses this entirely with a specialized internal fluidizing plate that guides incoming water into a uniform, rolling churn. This cyclonic lifting action is driven by a commercial-grade Blaster series recirculation pump built with a silicon nitride ceramic shaft to withstand abrasive mineral friction. Equipped with heavy-wall union connections, an integrated pH probe dock, and an auto-fill visual bubble counter, this commercial tower provides absolute water parameter stability for world-class aquatic displays.

Key Features

  • Industrial Fluidization Matrix: Keeps aragonite media in a constant, gentle suspension state to eliminate media cementing and internal channeling.

  • Blaster Series Power Core: Features premium internal components optimized for 24/7 continuous operation with zero operational downtime.

  • CO2 Efficiency Loop: Recycles trapped gas pockets collecting in the upper neck assembly, drastically expanding the lifespan of your pressurized CO2 bottles.

  • Automation Ready Probe Port: Securely houses electronic pH controller probes directly in the primary mixing zone for reliable, automated solenoid control.

  • Pressure-Sealed Structural Integrity: Built with heavy-duty union adapters and a thick, gasket-sealed top lid flange ensuring 100% leak-proof external or cabinet deployment.

  1. Unfasten the upper heavy-duty sealing hardware and remove the primary lid from the main 10-inch cast acrylic tower.
  2. Rinse your preferred high-quality, large-grain coarse aragonite media thoroughly with RO/DI water to clear out fine powder, then add up to 15 Liters into the chamber.
  3. Re-seat the lid assembly, ensuring the primary structural sealing ring sits flat against the collar, and torque down the retaining hardware evenly.
  4. Insert your electronic pH controller probe into the designated primary chamber compression port and tighten the locking nut to establish a watertight seal.
  5. Plumb your 1/4-inch feed supply water line (from a dedicated auxiliary feed pump or a pressurized system manifold tap) and your regulated CO2 line to their respective intake connections.
  6. Fill the reactor tower with water to displace any trapped air pockets, turn on your effluent feed water line, and power up the Blaster recirculation pump via a GFCI wall outlet.

Pro Tips:

  • Coarse Media Only. Always utilize a high-quality, large-grain coarse aragonite media (such as large coral bones or premium coarse chips) inside the CR-250PRO. Fine, sandy, or small-grained media will rapidly melt down into a dense, muddy sludge inside the acidic internal environment. This mud will choke the lower Power Churn dispersement nozzles, stall water flow, and potentially bind or permanently score the Blaster pump's impeller assembly.
  • Failsafe Solenoid Programming. To protect your commercial system from over-acidification, always plug your CO2 regulator solenoid into an electronic aquarium controller or dedicated pH monitor. Program the controller to instantly cut power to the CO2 gas solenoid if the internal chamber pH dips below 6.5. This failsafe keeps the aragonite from turning into mush during an unforeseen system fluctuation.
  • Effluent Scaling Protocols. Because the effluent fluid leaving the reactor is highly saturated with calcium and carbonate ions, small mineral crusts (calcium scaling) can slowly precipitate inside the discharge plumbing line over time. Inspect your daily drip or flow rate weekly. Every few months, clear out the line lines by flushing a brief run of warm RO/DI water or a mild white vinegar solution through the effluent plumbing to dissolve hidden mineral blockages.
