Reef Octopus Water Blaster 3000 Return Pump
The Reef Octopus Water Blaster 3000 (SKU: HY-3000W) is a professional-grade recirculation and return pump designed to push high volumes of water with exceptional energy efficiency. Powered by rare-earth Neodymium magnets, the Water Blaster series generates significantly higher magnetic torque than traditional ferrite pumps while producing minimal heat transfer into your aquarium water column. Whether used as a primary sump return, a dedicated supply pump for media reactors, or a circulation driver for compact reef systems, the HY-3000W delivers quiet, dependable performance.
At the heart of the HY-3000W is an intelligent Digital Circuit Control Board. Unlike standard AC pumps that randomly clatter backwards upon power-up, this smart circuit monitors rotor orientation to guarantee smooth, forward startup every time. Additionally, if the pump detects an obstruction—such as a stray snail or heavy debris jammed in the volute—the circuit automatically cuts power to prevent the motor block from overheating or burning out.
Calcium-Resistant Engineering
A primary cause of aquarium pump failure is calcium carbonate calcification on the impeller shaft, which leads to friction, noise, and eventual rotor lock. The Water Blaster 3000 solves this using Silicon Nitride for its shaft and bearing surfaces. Silicon nitride features an ultra-smooth, non-porous structure that actively deters calcium adhesion. This drastically reduces the need for frequent acid/vinegar baths, letting you spend less time performing pump maintenance and more time enjoying your reef.

Submersed Installation:
Attach the included vibration-isolation suction feet to the baseplate of the pump.
Thread the intake strainer screen onto the 1" inlet port to protect the impeller from coarse debris or macroalgae.
Place the pump flat in a clean sump return chamber, ensuring water level completely covers the volute.
Connect flexible vinyl tubing or hard-plumb rigid PVC out of the 3/4" discharge union.
Plug the power cord into a GFCI-protected wall outlet.
External (Inline) Installation:
Remove the intake strainer screen and connect a dedicated suction line from your sump's bulkheads directly to the 1" inlet.
Ensure the intake line is flood-fed. Because the HY-3000W is not self-priming, the water level in your sump must rest above the level of the pump's inlet port.
Apply PTFE thread tape to male fittings and secure all union connections.
Check for watertight integrity before powering on the unit.
Pro Tips:
CRITICAL SYSTEM DESIGN WARNING: The Water Blaster 3000 is engineered as a high-volume circulation and return pump. It is not designed for extreme pressure applications, such as pumping water up two stories or driving pressure-hungry downdraft or Beckett-style protein skimmers.
Always Install True Unions Inline. When hard-plumbing the HY-3000W externally, install true union ball valves on both the intake and discharge pipes immediately adjacent to the pump. This allows you to isolate the pump and remove it for routine servicing without draining your sump or display tank.
Perform Annual Silicon Nitride Inspections. While silicon nitride actively repels mineral deposits, micro-biotoxins and organic film can still accumulate inside the impeller chamber over time. Disassemble the front volute once or twice a year and gently wipe down the rotor and shaft with a soft sponge soaked in diluted citric acid to keep the pump running quietly at peak efficiency.
