The Reef Octopus SRO XP-8000EXT (Super Reef Octopus) is a commercial-grade external recirculating protein skimmer designed for massive residential displays, public aquariums, and large-scale aquaculture systems. Utilizing a 16-inch full cone body, the XP-8000EXT is engineered to process the extreme biological loads of systems up to 1,200 gallons. Its recirculating design allows the Bubble Blaster HY-10000S pump to focus exclusively on mixing air and water within the body, while a separate feed pump (sold separately) dictates the flow-through rate.
The "XP" designation refers to the skimmer’s Full Cone shape, which significantly reduces internal turbulence compared to traditional cylinder bodies. This stability, combined with the immense air-shredding power of the Bubble Blaster pump, ensures that organics are stripped from the water column with industrial efficiency. CoralVue, Inc. and Reef Octopus hereby guarantee this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:
- Five (5) year warranty on pump body/housing
- Three (3) year warranty on Reef Octopus-branded controller
- One (1) year warranty on Power Supply, Impeller (and components), Rotor, Rear Bushing, and Gaskets
Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.
This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:
- To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
- To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
- To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
- That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
- That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
- Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.
- Assemble the skimmer and ensure all external O-rings and unions are securely seated and tightened.
- Place the unit on a level surface (ideally inside a containment tray or near a floor drain).
- Connect a dedicated feed pump (not included) to the 1-inch intake.
- Plug the HY-10000S pump into a GFCI-protected outlet.
- Start the feed pump first to fill the skimmer body before powering on the Bubble Blaster pump.
- Adjust the gate valve until the internal water level reaches the transition of the body and neck.
- Check all plumbing connections frequently during the first 48 hours of operation.
Pro Tips:
- Independent Feed Rate. Because this is a recirculating skimmer, the feed rate is critical. For the most efficient nutrient export, we recommend a feed rate of approximately 1.5 to 2 times your total system volume per hour.
- Metric Plumbing Integration. The SRO XP-8000EXT utilizes a 63mm Metric output. For the most secure external installation, use a 63mm Metric Union to connect the skimmer's discharge to your sump or drain lines.
- Automatic Neck Cleaning. In high-volume commercial systems, the neck of a 16-inch skimmer will accumulate waste quickly. To maintain peak performance, we highly recommend pairing this unit with an Automatic Neck Cleaner (ANC) to keep the inner neck walls free of sludge 24/7.
