Reef Brite UVA/UVB Fixture with Optical Glass Lens

Wild coral reefs are bathed in a broad solar spectrum that includes significant levels of ultraviolet radiation. In response to intense natural sunlight, reef-building stony corals produce vibrant fluorescent proteins, specialized non-fluorescent chromoproteins, and mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) that act as biological sunscreens. Most commercial aquarium lighting fixtures deliberately cut off all wavelengths below 400nm, depriving captive corals of the environmental cues needed to express their deepest natural colors. The Reef Brite UVA/UVB Fixture with Glass Lens (SKU: RB-UVFIXT) is the official OEM supplemental ultraviolet lighting fixture engineered specifically to introduce Controlled UVA and UVB Radiation to Captive Marine Aquariums.

Standard acrylic lenses and polycarbonate light covers are unsuitable for true ultraviolet applications because polymers absorb short-wavelength UV energy and undergo rapid solarization, leading to embrittlement, severe yellowing, and light loss. The RB-UVFIXT solves this by utilizing a high-purity optical glass lens that provides maximum photon transmittance across both the UVA (315–400 nm) and UVB (280–315 nm) bands without optical degradation. Encased in a rugged black anodized aluminum extrusion, the fixture operates on completely passive thermal convection, radiating heat upward and away from the aquarium without cooling fans. When introduced as a supplemental midday burst, the RB-UVFIXT stimulates natural coral pigmentation, intensifies metallic coloration in Acropora and Montipora, and enhances tissue fluorescence across zoanthids and LPS corals.

Ideal Application & Upgrade Scenarios

If your high-end SPS corals tend to turn pastel, brown out, or lose their vibrant wild pigments under conventional LED or T5 lighting, or if you maintain specialized captive propagation systems where replicating the complete natural sunlight spectrum is paramount, adding the RB-UVFIXT provides a safe, targeted ultraviolet light supplement.

Warranty

CoralVue, Inc. hereby guarantees this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of:

  • 1 Year

Warranty is activated on the date of purchase.

This Standard Limited Warranty applies and is limited as follows:

  • To the product only as long as it remains in the possession of the original purchaser.
  • To the product that has not been subject to accident, misuse or abuse.
  • To the product that has not been modified, altered, defaced, or had repairs made or attempted by other than CoralVue, Inc.
  • That CoralVue be immediately notified in writing within ten (10) days of first knowledge of defect by owner or his agent.
  • That CoralVue, Inc. shall be given first opportunity to make any repairs, replacements or corrections to the defective construction within a reasonable period of time.
  • Under no circumstances shall CoralVue and/or the Manufacturer be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any person or property whatsoever for any special, indirect, secondary or consequential damages of any nature however arising out of the use or inability to use because of the product defect.

Installation & Acclimation Guidelines:

  1. Inspect the fixture, optical glass lens, and power supply for any shipping damage prior to assembly.

  2. Fasten the aluminum mounting brackets to the fixture housing or integrate it into your existing canopy framework or multi-light rail.

  3. Position the fixture at least 8 to 12 inches above the water surface, ensuring the glass lens is pointed squarely down into the aquarium.

  4. Plug the barrel connector from the fixture lead into the DC output cord of the dedicated power supply.

  5. Create a drip loop along the power cord beneath the electrical outlet to prevent moisture from traveling down toward the wall plug.

  6. Connect the power supply to an independent digital timer or smart outlet.

Pro Tips:

  • Treat UV Like High-Intensity Chemical Sun: Unlike visible blue or daylight spectrums that run for 8 to 10 hours daily, ultraviolet radiation should be utilized as a concentrated midday "sun burst." Running UVA/UVB light for more than 2 to 3 hours continuously can cause photoinhibition, zooxanthellae expulsion, or coral tissue bleaching. A 1- to 2-hour pulse at the midpoint of your daily schedule delivers optimal biological stimulation without stressing corals.
  • Avoid Direct Eye and Skin Exposure During Maintenance: True UVA and UVB wavelengths can cause ocular strain and skin irritation with prolonged direct exposure. Always plug the RB-UVFIXT into an independent controller channel or switch that remains powered off during routine tank maintenance, fragging sessions, or hand-in-tank work. Keep aquarium glass lids or canopies closed when the UV fixture is illuminated.
