Octo Water Blaster 2000 Water Pump (OPEN BOX)
SKU: OB-HY-2000W
- The Reef Octopus Water Blaster 2000 is a submersible or external aquarium pump rated at 550 GPH maximum flow with 6 ft of max head.
- It is designed for return pump, reactor feed, and recirculation applications where a reliable, compact AC pump is needed.
- A digital control circuit board manages directional startup and RPM speeds, and shuts the pump down automatically if it detects a problem.
- Silicon nitride shafts and bearings resist calcium buildup on the rotor, reducing cleaning frequency compared to ceramic-shafted pumps.

Submersible or External Return and Recirculation Pump
The Reef Octopus Water Blaster 2000 is a compact AC aquarium pump built on the same platform as the Reef Octopus Bubble Blaster skimmer pumps but optimized for moving water rather than producing foam. It runs at 550 GPH maximum flow with a 6 ft max head, drawing 22 watts, and can be installed submerged in a sump or run externally. The ¾" inlet and ½" outlet sizing make it compatible with standard aquarium tubing and plumbing connections.
The defining engineering feature of the Water Blaster line is the digital control circuit board housed inside the pump. This board manages directional startup — spinning the impeller in the correct direction reliably on every power-on — and regulates RPM speeds for consistent performance. It also monitors the pump during operation and shuts it down automatically if it detects a condition that could damage or shorten the pump's lifespan. Silicon nitride shafts and bearings are used instead of ceramic, which resists calcium carbonate buildup on the rotor more effectively, keeping maintenance intervals longer.
Note: The Water Blaster 2000 is not a pressure-rated pump. It is not suitable for applications that require consistent back-pressure, such as second-floor return runs or feeding Beckett or downdraft-style protein skimmers.
Key Features:
- The digital control circuit board manages directional startup, RPM regulation, and automatic protective shutdown.
- Silicon nitride shafts and bearings resist calcium buildup better than ceramic, reducing maintenance frequency.
- Submersible or external installation flexibility.
- ¾" inlet / ½" outlet for standard plumbing compatibility.
- 550 GPH max flow / 6 ft max head at 22 watts.
- 5-year warranty on pump body/housing; tiered warranty coverage on components.
- Confirmed compatible feed pump for the Reef Octopus BR70 BioPellet Reactor.
- Confirmed replacement pump for: SRO-CR2000C, BR2000SS.
Ideal For:
- Small sump return pump applications where 550 GPH is sufficient for the system's turnover needs.
- Feed pump for the Reef Octopus BR70 BioPellet Reactor (requires 265–400 GPH; the 2000 falls within this range).
- Recirculation pump applications in refugiums, media reactors, or secondary chambers.
- Replacement pump for Reef Octopus equipment confirmed to use the Water Blaster 2000 platform.
Pro Tips:
- Size your return pump to your overflow's capacity, not your tank volume. A common mistake is choosing a return pump based on a turnover ratio (e.g., "10x tank volume per hour") without checking whether the overflow can actually handle that flow rate. The Water Blaster 2000 at 550 GPH max is well-suited to smaller sumped systems with appropriately rated overflows.
- Account for head loss in your flow calculation. The 550 GPH figure is at zero head (open discharge). Every foot of vertical rise, every elbow, and every foot of tubing reduces actual flow. At 6 ft of head the flow drops significantly — factor in your sump-to-display height and plumbing run when determining whether this pump meets your needs.
- Run it submerged for quieter operation and cooler temperatures. The Water Blaster 2000 can run externally, but submersed operation in the sump is quieter and uses the surrounding water to dissipate heat. External installation is useful when sump access for maintenance is a priority.

Instructions:
- Determine installation method: submersed in the sump or external. For submersed installation, position the pump below the water surface in the sump. For external installation, ensure the pump is primed and the inlet is connected to a water source at all times — do not run dry.
- Connect the ¾" inlet to your water source (sump, return chamber, or reactor feed line) using appropriate tubing or plumbing fittings.
- Connect the ½" outlet to your return line or destination tubing.
- Plug the pump into a standard outlet. The digital circuit board will manage directional startup automatically.
- Verify flow at the outlet. Check for any air in the line and allow a moment for the pump to prime and reach steady flow.
- If the pump shuts down automatically, allow it to cool briefly, check for obstructions or an airlock, and restart. The protective shutdown is designed to prevent damage — repeated shutdown events indicate a plumbing or installation issue to investigate.
